Part-time work - Pro-rata calculations

Hi, would anyone be able to advise me on how the calculations are made with regard to part-time work and working our pro-rata holiday allowance.

I assume there's a standard calculation that all companies work by. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Scoya.

    Statutory minimum would work out at the number of days worked multiplied by 4. Therefore a 4 day week would be 16 days leave however public holiday entitlement can be included in that figure.

  • Hope you understand the following :- based on a 5 day working week @ 7.30 hours per day with an entitlement of 29 days a/l per year:

    potential working day = 260 (x daily hours)= 1898
    a/l entitlement = (29 x 7.30) = 211.7
    divide the above 260 divided by 211.7 = 8.9

    so basically for every 8.9 hours worked , one hour a/l leave entitlement has been earned.

    now the horrible bit if the hours are not straight forward :

    example 30 hours :-
    hours worked (30) divided by hours needed to work to earn 1 hour a/l = 3.37 , to work it out in days allowance would be x normal working day (7.30 ) = 24.6

    once youve broken it down into an hourly entitlement its fairly easy, but only if youve ever had to work it out before.

    if you work 16 hours a week x it by 4 for minimum holiday HOURS per annum. As ohreally says some really mean employers include bank holidays in the four weeks (for full time employees) and also if where you work closes at christmas for example that will be taken off your holidays aswell.
