My new money making idea/plan

Hi All
I have been thinking of starting up something new for me to make some extra money and although it might not be the best time to do it due to the current economic climate it is something I am still considering and have considered in the past. I have always been a crafty person and enjoy making things and consider myself to be quite good at it and I am going to look into making things and selling them seasonally, eg Christmas at Christmas Fayres and Craft Fayres. I know Chistmas has only just finished but I am planning way ahead. Does anyone think this would be a good idea and if there is anyone who does this already could you give me some advice please. As I said I know the economy isn't good so it may not be the best time to start it, but people always want things seasonally and even if it only makes me a few hundred pounds at the end of the year, at least it will bump up my money making/saving target.

Hiya, I have tied this and it is very hard work to make much. There are far more people making cards and jewellery etc than buy it, in my experience. I had my own website and advertised widely across the internet as well as locally. Ebay and other craft websites were a waste of time.I did craft fairs but they don't tend to generate much income. It really depends how much you want to make. I think the only people making money from craft are the ones selling the supplies such as card, paper and jewel stones and fittings. Saying that it is a very enjoyable pastime that can make a few quid but you have to take into account how much you are spending too.
best of luck tho' if it's what you want.:oDMP Mutual Support Thread Member 3000 -
Thanks Chancer.
I am going to research it all properly and look into how much people make compared to what the outlay may be. Even if it only makes a few hundred I would be happy, did you make alot yourself?

It does depend what craft you make. I certainly put more money in than I got back. Research craft websites where you can sell your stuff, like etsy and there is a UK based one but I can't remember what its called. Do a Google search. They take a cut but tend to have a client base who buy regularly. As I said the market is saturated with handmade cards.
Whats your craft?DMP Mutual Support Thread Member 3000 -
To be honest I don't have a particular craft, but would be doing things like cross stitch cards, decorations, maybe hand painted trinket boxes, that sort of thing0
