First off I hope I'm posting this in the right section - sorry if it's not.
I'm currently out of work and every week I look through the job pages without any joy and need to make some money asap.
I noticed an advert about stuffing envelopes from home to earn extra cash - I figured I'm earning nothing at the min so something is better than nothing ?
I had to send a SAE to SHB Marketing to a PO Box in Tenbury Wells for more information - I did this and received the info back today.
It says - WOULD YOU STUFF ENVELOPES FOR £250+ WEEKLY, simple pleasant work you can do at home - 50p for each envelope.
Earn extra money working from home by becoming an active participant of our successful mailing association. You receive payment instantly for the envelopes you stuff - there's no limit you stuff as many as you wish.
It says there are many mail order companies who want to expand their business but d not want to hire more people. If they hire more employees they would have to supervise them, rent more office space, pay more taxes and insurance involving more paperwork. It is much easier for them to set it up so that independant homeworkers can earn extra money doing the work themselves.
This programme is designed to help people cash in with a company who needs home workers. Each member is an independant homeworker. You serve a company that pays good commission to have their circulars mailed. This programme has been perfected so that it has become one of the most sucessful and profitable ones ever.
We invite you to take part in our sucess. The money is up to you. We do not require that you mail a certain number of pieces every week. You can take on whatever amount of business that fits your schedule and you can quit whenever you want, there are no obligations.

I've NEVER done or thought about doing anything like this before and if it's really as simple as the above makes out I'd be very tempted to do it.
But the old synic in me makes me think it's one of these things you'd see on Watch Dog.
Does anyone actually do this sort of thing as an extra income or does anyone know anything about it ??
If this is what I think it is - a scam, does anyone know of any genuine work I could do from home ??
Thanks in advance

I've seen these sort of things before and wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
They get out of refunding you your "registration fee" by never sending you 100 envelopes to stuff and return. As they make no promise to send you work then legally they have done nothing wrong and you have no recourse to claim your registration fee back.
There is a new website called haggle4me (https://www.haggle4me.com) where you can perhaps make some money by helping other users to find things they are about to buy cheaper. It's a new site so there aren't many listings on there at the moment but I think it has the potential to be really big. Quiet a few people from this forum (me included!) are already haggling on the site. It won't exactly provide you with an income you could live off just yet but it could in the future!
Hope this helps.0 -
My sister once did envelope labelling when she had her first child and needed extra money.
The problem was that she did all the work neat and tidily and within their rules but they found fault with quite a bit of it and they only paid her for what they decided was good enough but I presume they used it all. It really wasn't worth all the effort.0 -

I suppose there are some "legit" companies out there but I did a search for SHB Marketing and found no website. The only search results you get are ads to attract "stuffers" and from forums where people are asking if they are OK!
How do they get the work if they don't advertise their services to businesses? My guess is they don't have any work and even if they do, as Alison says, it probably not worth it.

Thanks for your reply guys.
I used my loaf after posting this and googled the company name and it is all a scam.0 -
Anything like this that asks you for a fee upfront is certainly a bit iffy. I have been tempted by this in the past, but if they were genuine, they'll be paying you money not taking it.0

If you think about it if they can afford to pay people this much money, they can afford one of those machines that do it for half the cost of paying you. Can't really see a good return on it, if it was that good everyone would be doing it.lWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

It's a scam. You will hardly get paid what you should.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

I saw a little card in a newsagents window can't remember who it was from. But some offical type body about homeworking and there advice.
Was NEVER EVER pay anyone for homeworking. It is a waste of money.
If people want you to work for them they will pay you not the otherway around. When you had a full time job did you pay your employer to work there nope you did not.
Do you have any local supermarkets local. They are always looking for staff to stack shelves etc. These are normally not in the newspaper.
