I found our local store were really reasonable last year.

I returned a game we already had in Jan without a receipt and they happily allowed me to exchange it for something else and even agreed to do so at the price it would have been before Xmas (was reduced in sale).

    Worth a try anyway.

I have returned duplicated/unwanted gifts several times and ELC have always been great. If you haven't got the receipt they will give you a Gift Card.
Hopeless by name, hopeless by nature.

Boots also has a number of the ELC toys at half price -

    And others.

If you can bear to use the Boots website (which I find horrible to use since they've changed it).

ETA: Last year, I managed to get a number of ELC toys in the 75% off sale at Boots, including the dino island, which had been £35, and remained at £35 in ELC. It was much appreciated by my 5yo this Christmas.

Yes, they'll have it back, I worked for them and they have a "no quibble" returns policy. People used to even bring in deflated bouncy castles at the end of the summer when they'd obviously had enough of them and say it was unwanted and we'd have to give their money back (through gritted teeth......!)

You will only get the current selling price though without a receipt.

well your policy must have changed we tried to return a paddling pool as it was an unwanted gift could see it had never been out of the box and they wouldnt refund us. took it off my dh and said they would get headoffice to decide and either send us a chq in post or return the item to us! needless to say i marched straight in and got it bk off them! they didnt beleive it was an unwanted gift apparently they thought we had used it. Even head office said its down to the store manager
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.

    That's awful service.
I left 2 years ago but have checked and it def states on their website:
    Question

How can I obtain a refund?
    Answer

We're delighted to say that we operate a 'No Quibble' returns policy.
So if you're not entirely happy with a toy you've bought from the Early Learning Centre, we'll gladly exchange it or refund your money. No time limit applies.
