strawberrys not so good

I recently ordered some make-up from Strawberrynet.com and was told I would receive it within 5-10 days. 16 days later I am faced with a bill from the post office and customs for 16.40., making my reduced price make-up cost more than if I had gone toLondon to get it. I have never had to pay this before and was not alerted to these charges before I paid Strawberry. Any advice from anyone?

I am presuming it was shipped from the US? Are you absolutely certain you were not alerted to possible import charges? I doubt very much you'll be able to do anything about them TBH... How much did you spend?0

Q. Will there be any taxes/customs duties?
A. It depends on the destination. We currently ship to over 200 countries across the globe and most countries (especially the USA, Australia, Japan, South Korea) allow free trade over the internet and will not charge any customs duty whatsoever for small packages entering the country.
For the current time, we will endeavor to assist and cover in cases where duty is charged, but we emphasize this is on a goodwill, not on an obligation basis. If you are charged customs then please collect the package, pay any fees due and then e-mail, fax or post your receipt to us and we will reimburse you.

I remember reading on this site something about import duty being dropped for anything under £100 bought from outside the EU. I wonder if you could challenge the charge?Not buying clothes for a year - it's liberating!0
