What to wear??

hi,
I dont think this is the right place to post this but anyway ...
I've gained quite a lot of weight in the last 6 months or so and all my clothes are fitting badly (those that fit at all...) I want to work on losing it again (arranged to go running and starting to watch what I eat etc) but I am sick of looking a mess fashion wise. I am at uni and honestly next to all the 18/19 years old who are all jazzed up every day or seem to be going somewhere special (ie home maybe??) I look like a baglady!! It gets me down if I'm honest, so I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how I can manage it?
I was thinking cheap Debenhams v-neck pullover with a scarf for a start, with either jeans/black trousers?? but I'm at a loss after that .....
Thanks
Jen

V necks are always flattering as are fitted shirts. It depends on the look you want I guess.
But just wanted to say - if you are not feeling confident, then get clothes that actually fit you and not what size you think you should be. There is nothing more unflattering or confidence destroying than badly fitting/too small clothes. Even if you get a size bigger than you used to, you will look slimmer because you are not bulging out of them (I've had 3 children and have had bulges in the past in places I never even knew I had!- I know what I'm talking about
)
Having a nice haircut and trying to look as good as you can every day is the way to maintain our confidence. Perhaps shopping somewhere cheaper than normal so you can buy a little more than normal would help?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
hi,
TBH I normally shop at Primark, Ive avoided fashion shops for a loooong time as Ive never been skinny, I was thinking of going to Debenhams with the view that at least they will last more than one wash...0 -
Book a session with a personal shopper at Debenhams. Get some tips, find some excuse for not buying a lot / anything that day, and then head out to the charity shops and try some new things!Signature removed for peace of mind0

You've probably sorted this already, but just in case you haven't, think about investing in some good underwear. A well fitting bra and some [strike]of my belly buster[/strike] shaper 'big knickers'
Your clothes will fit better and you'll look slimmer without loosing any weight.
Then accentuate the positive - show off your lovely curves. V necks are good, as are those wrap cardis that tie at the side. If you have a Sainsburys close by you they have a great line for the plus size lady and also some very reasonably priced jewellery to accessorise (sp?) your new look. Tailored/fitted shirts can be worn under your new V necks and also over plain white t-shirts/vest tops.
Properly fitting black trousers (or jeans) are a must too. Good Luck
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
Oi you lot - please

I'd definitely echo what Penny Watcher says about getting a well-fitting bra. It makes a lot of difference to the way you look, and can really boost your confidence.
Fashion-wise, tbh the clothes that seem to be 'in' now are just so-oo unflattering (clashing colours, leggings:eek: , flat cotton shoes, shapeless tops, etc...) that you're probably better off just buying more classic styles and ignoring the trends for now. Primark is fine, imo
I know what you mean about student-girls dressing up in all the latest gear.. hmmm you can see what their student loan has been spent on :rolleyes:0 -

LOL :rotfl::rotfl: believe me if I didnt have well fitting bra's I wouldn't get through a day... Im a 32E now and I honestly thank Debenhams for their budget range every morning!! I also have a pair of "big knickers" but find them too uncomfortable/restictive for daily wear. I love Gok Wan too so try to follow his advice as best I can ...
I think part of the problem is that I dont plan my shopping well, I buy something very fashionable in my size 14/16/18 (not often an 18 thankfully) and then wear it, feel uncomfortable as its made for a sz 10/12 and then think "I have no clothes!" and wear the same scruffy ones that fit.
