merina problems help

hi just wondered if anyone has the merina iud fitted,i had mine put in by the hospital for heavy bleeding its been 6 months now and i bleed or spot most of the month i probaly get about 7 clear days a month, i know you have to let it settle but its been 6 months now and its getting me down,do you think i should leave it a little longer?im 48 and dont need it for contraception,just to help my heavy periods.

just had my second one removed, first one was great and did settle after a couple of months. Second one only lasted 3 years, and needed it removing. I would say go back to your gp, I only bled for about 2 hours and that would be it. Mine was also put in for heavy periods and like I said it was great for me, but for others its a curse. I just started a thread too about the coil cause I've had problems since getting it removed. 6 months is long enough, you've tried and its not working.0

I had the mirena fitted to help with my endometriosis and period problems. I to was told by six months everything should have settled and definetly by 9 months would be as good as I was gonna get. I spotted and bled throughout the month and only had a few days of no bleeding/spotting as well like you but no where near as heavy and painful as before so I stuck with it. Strangley enough a year and a couple of weeks after having it fitted I stopped bleeding and spotting....all I get now is a very light bleed for a few days each month...so I guess thats like my period.
if the Mirena had improved things slightly for you, maybe its worth sticking with it a bit longer?0 -
My experience was very much like Misspointy's - I'm aobut a year further ahead now and my periods and spotting have completely stopped - I know when I'm "due" as my bosoms still get a little sore but that's about it. Unlike Misspointy i was told that it would take about a year to settleI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080

I have had the mirena in for almost a year now, beginning of next month, but it has only been my most recent period that I haven't been bleeding for about two weeks. I was told this was the better option for heavy periods rather than the laser treatment, I was extremely disappointed until recently as although my periods were much lighter and more painfree than before the length of time I was bleeding was far longer and the time between bleeds much shorter so it was difficult to see the benefits, glad I stuck with it now though.

I've had my Mirena for 5 years and I am just about to get it replaced. I had 6 months of spotting and then it gradually stopped over the next month or two. At the time it was disheartening but I tried to focus on the long term. I would encourage you to stick with it for a bit longer if you can. Now I rarely have any spotting and if I do it lasts for a day. I've saved a fortune in sanitary protection and only need to use the occasional panty liner.0

TBH I would go back and get checked that it hasn't moved - if it has it could be why you are still having problems. Ive had five fitted now - two of which had to be removed within the year - including the one fitted by the hospital - because they had migrated and didnt do their job0

My first coil was not as effective as my second coil. With my first I spotted for about three years, until I had it replaced with the new. However, the second one did take sometime to settle down, several months, maybe a year, and with some weight loss this year, it is considerably better.0
