Have just found out that daughters school mate was posted out to Afganistan yesterday
I have been looking at all these wonderful gift baskets you have been doing.
Can you give me some ideas to make a wonderful gift box to send out to him.

Not choccie as it melts!
I think if it is under 2kg and BFBO mail it can go free, you also need to check what you can / cannot send out as there are government rules.!!
Sent OH's son, harbio (sp) sweets, lads mags! toothpaste, and such like.
Sounds like a wonderful idea, good luck with it.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Hi!
I think its really lovely of you to send something out to him. My OH is ex army and went out to Iraq and I know he loved receiving parcels from home.
There are some protocols you have to follow as certain things are not allowed such as aerosols, !!!!!!, alcohol etc. I know this site is about the Christmas appeal but there are lists on there that tell you what you can and cannot put in the boxes. Scroll down a little and the list is there.

I know that the guys love to get food from home, things to keep them occupied and toiletries. Saving hard for a brighter future!:beer:0 -
Sorry to be dim, but what is BFBO - guessing British Forces ...... ?
Can it be used for an annonymous gift box, or do you need to know the name and address of the soldier?
Their is an armed services section and I noticed that it has been suggested that un-named gift boxes are causing problems. Which is a shame as it was something I had planned to do with my guides this year.
However to OP, that's a lovely idea, maybe the other thread will have ideas what to include, as I have no idea.0 -
What a wonderful thing t'internet is. With a little digging I found this http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/continuation_of_free_packet_service.htm
No good for unamed boxes as pointed out by FourCandles, but may be of use to someone?0 -

My son is out in afghanistan at the moment (in the paras) and is due home............yippppppeeeeeeee in just over a weeks time finishing his six month tour. (at long last
)
We've sent him so many things over the last 6 months, we've just sent jokey cheap pressies over with food items too. Things that if they get lost/broken/left behind it doesnt really matter. It just really depends on his likes/dislikes.
Cheap childrens plastic chess set (they actually ended up having a mini league) and it only cost £2.49
Magazines
Photos from home (you cant put them in eblueys so have to put in parcels, we sent copies of old photos and also silly ones of us taken at home...with fake teeth etc on..anything to distract him and make a little smile)
Jokey cards rather than letters in the package, to make it a little different
Pair of desert camo boxer shorts (from ebay) with a little note attached "so you're camoflaged at all times"
Football
Frisbee
Skipping Rope (for fitness)
Car travel games....i.e. monoply/battle ships etc
Silly spy glasses from a joke shop that have tiny mirrors on so you can see behind yourself (only a couple of quid)
Plastic kids boules
Tins of fruit in fruit juice/custard/rice pudding
Tins of fish (for the protein..apparentlly lots of the lads where asking for it)
Sweets....tictaks..mints..fruit boiled sweets etc.
Boxes of raisins
Fruit cake
Doritos (packaged them in box)
