TV licence collection consultation

The BBC have an open consultation on the collection of the TV licence so now is a chance to have your say about the heavy TVL agents and all that post and threatening letters etc. Unfortunately, it is not about the licence itself or how much it is.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/consult/open_consultations/tv_licence.htmlDo you think it's clear when a TV licence is needed? Do you know about the different ways of paying for your licence? What's your view on the tone of the marketing and advertising about the need to pay a TV licence? Do you think the methods of enforcement, including letters, visits and detection, are reasonable and appropriate?

What I find annoying is the assumption that every household owns a television and the repeated requests to pay for a license even when you have made it perfectly there is no set on the premises.
I have survived quite happily without a TV on several occasions and not only is it possilbe but highly recommended.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hope is not a strategy

This is what is fundamentally wrong - you're presumed guilty of evasion until one of their scrotes verifies that you don't have live TV.The man without a signature.0 -
Thanks for this op!, i never received the reminder recently & the letter they sent, man! talk about aggressive & high handed.....No one said it was gonna be easy!0

Thanks for this Johala.
I've left answers which fully illustrate how Orwellian I find the whole concept of State sponsored bullies frightening the wits out of old ladies (my mum, who never had a telly in her sheltered accommodation) and for banging up the poor and oppressed for non payment of licence and subsequent fine, for the crime of trying to fill their joyless hours with something other than thoughts of suicide. Or shoplifting. Or whatever else you think of when you are skint and feel society has excluded you.
BTW I have a licence but I do believe that they are totally wrong in principle.
I bet the Queen only needs one for Buckingham palace...0 -
Update !
I have spent a couple of hours working on this "consultation" - perhaps I am getting paranoid but the more I look at the questions, the more I see Capita's ugly hand involved !
Several of the statements used before a question is asked could only have come from Capita.
Very much of the "have you stopped beating your wife" variety !
I shall be sending my response by post. I am cutting and pasting not only the questions but many of the statements made before the question as well. I am querying these statements to boot !
For example, I queried the use of "enforcement officers" in a statement - this grandiose title was dreamt up by Capita to give their employees a pseudo- legal title and frighten people.
I have been in communication with my MP about Capita, I might send him a copy of my response too.
have fun !
:D
Charis, don't worry too much about shoplifting, the penalties for leaving your wheelie bin lid open are now greater than those for shoplifting ! Honest !0 -
Thank you for highlighting this:beer: ...........I have just completed mine. Seven years of those wretched letters gave me plenty to say!;)0

Just added my opinion to the consultation.
You won't believe the mound of letters i've got after 25 years of no TV!
I too resent the fact that i'm 'guilty' because I havent got a TV licence.
I've no problem with those who do want to watch TV - it's their choice - but it's not for me.
If Capita don't believe me it's not my problem - and if they hadn't been so intrusive in the first place I might have been more cooperative.
Remember that regardless of what they imply they haven't really got much power - don't be bullied by them & don't (unless you want to) let them into your home as they have no automatic right of entry. Even if you do let them in the fun starts again after a few years as they will want another look to see if you're still telling the truth!
There have been several cases of vulnerable people buying licences they don't need because they have been frightened by the aggressive tone of TV Licencing adverts and letters - which I really do think is outrageous.0
