Scotland Skiing
Options
I am planning a ski trip to CairnGorm (Aviemore, Scotland) winter 08/09. I will require ski hire and a lift pass for myself and husband. For my 2 children (7 & 11 yrs) I will require ski lessons, ski hire and lift pass. My children have been having a few lessons on a dry ski slope (My eldest son has progressed faster). Is anybody able to recommend which company I need to book with and what I need to book for my children? Any advice appreciated.

I wish I could help.
we live in Scotland so when we know it's a good skiing weekend we go. We've found it totally impossible to plan. We decide say Wednesday that it's good to go.
It is that unreliable.0 -
Hiya! You might try looking at the Visit Scotland website on Skiing in Scotland....
Pages for Ski centres and for CairnGorm Mountain itself, as well as hire & lessons pages.

try local travel agent for a brochure - some have some for Scotland Skiing - some dont as the lack of snow the past few years has caused problems.
I believe you can also get a brochure from this site

Thanks for the replies so far. I have booked our accommodation for Feb - so I will be keeping my fingers crossed for snow :rotfl:!!! Have looked on the visit scotland site - but there seems to be such a wide choice of companies that cater in ski lessons  . Do you think they will all be like for like? Has anybody booked lessons before and who with?0

I can't ski now (used to, tho', but xcountry only), but if you look at a comparison website or something like https://www.TripAdvisor.co.uk, you'll probably get some good feedback.Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

As far as lessons went for myself I went along to Xscape at Castleford and did lessons there (about 1 hour per fortnight) which spread it out a bit. Although this was boarding and not skiing. Now that I can board and so can my brother - we are just going to take the boards up into Scotland for a long weekend sometime when the weather is good for it.
But most schools tend to be much the same - especially if they are registered there will be set criteria for what they are supposed to teach generally in which order they teach it. Could check up to see if they have a website themselves or even reviews.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -

https://www.winterhighland.info is the best website for info on Scottish skiing.
The best months for snow cover, blue sky days etc. are usually March and April so if it was possible to go then I would recommend changing your holiday.
You can get ski hire, lessons etc. at all of the ski centres but it would probably be better to book in advance, some of them do beginers packages which can work out good value.
For the last few years Cairgorm has pretty much been the most expensive of the ski centres in Scotland, not sure about this year though as I see some other places have put prices up. Also if not many lifts are open Glenshee and Glencoe usually discount the lift prices but I have never had that at Cairngorm, I'm not saying don't go to Cairngorm just have a look elsewhere as well. The conditions at the 5 ski centres can be very different so if possible I would recommend booking accomodation somewhere in the middle and then deciding at the last minute which one to visit, again Winterhighland is the best for weather conditions.
Hope you have a great time anyway, there are some great pics on winterhighland, you can look at different months for the last few years and get an idea what the snow was like. For example here is a link to cairngorm 31/3/08
