Make up concealer / face primer

Hi all hope this is the right thread. I am looking for some make up tips if possible.

Ive got dear & cheap make up. Such as MAC, dior, and some cheap foundation? But i have spots i want to cover up. And i bought something from MAC when i went manchester yesterday as she said it was a concealer, but its someting for my cheek bones ?!

So first thing i would like to buy is a nice make up concealer. I was wondering if anyone had any past expeirence about using certain branded concealers? I would like it to cover my spots & my bags under my eyes.

I also have dry, oily skin. And when i put my foundation on its really dry, doesnt even stay on for one hour and ive heard about face primer, for your foundation. Was also wondering if anyone has used any? is it good? and does it keep your make up on for longer?

EDIT : One more question about make up brushes.

I bought two make up brushes, one eyeshadow and one foundation brush which you can also use for powder too. They are lovely and soft. Costly though! My foundation brush cost 25 pounds and my eyeshadow one cost 17 pounds. Whats the best way to clean them myself? I read once johnsons baby shampoo would be ok, i tried it on an old brush and it smelt so horrible after i at to bin it, and the brush went really horrible ... Thanks again !

    best concealer (imo) is Tesco Make Up - comes in a little pot for about £3.50 or £4. Great coverage.

    Under eyes I use L'oreal illuminating concealer - slightly more coverage than touche eclat but still quite light.

    primer - i swear by laura mercier face primer. it's not cheap - £27 a tube, but it lasts ages and you'll only need to apply make up once a day

    brushes - i love the ruby and millie brushes from boots - i buy them when there's an offer on or with my points. i've had them for about 4 years, and they are still perfect. i wash them with herbal essences shampoo and even condition them to keep them looking nice. i wash them about once a month.

    I really like my bobbi brown creamy concealer for under my eyes. It's a bit expensive though, I think it was around £20, and you get the best result if you apply it with a brush.

    I wash my make up brushes with either shampoo or liquid hand wash and lukewarm water. I do this about once every 3 to 4 weeks, and in between I use the MAC brush cleaner. If you don't wash your brushes often enough, the oil from your face will transfer onto the brushes and onto your make it. It makes them cakey looking.
    Not buying clothes for a year - it's liberating!

    If your skin is dry and your make up isnt staying put - you need to moisturise - your skin is "drinking" your foundation and it will "drink" primer as well. Sort your skin out first - you will no doubt find that you wont need concealers and if really lucky you wont need a foundation either

    Try the makeup section at www.acne.org who can offer advice.

    I suffer from spots too and have found that all oil-free foundations and primers break me out regardless. Currently, I'm using mineral foundation from www.lilylolo.co.uk and Melange cosmetics in the US and have had no problems!

    Stick with powders and away from creamy stick and liquid concealers for spots.

    The makeup brush you binned, was it a natural hair? They can smell when washed although it does go away when dried!
    My friend just bought a set of makeup brushes from Pro Makeup Brushes online, said they were fab and wash great, the same quality as Mac and £90 or something! You get a book that shows how to do makeup too, bonus!

    I've tried loads of concealers, I think the EB (elemental beauty) concealer & bright eyes are the best (better than YSL).

    Try the OCM (do a search on here), then find a good light moisturiser (Liz Earle for greasy skin is great, its light & moisturising).
    I'm still sussing out primers. The EB do a nice face powder too to set your makeup (Laura Mercier face powder is lovely, but its expensive) I now apply face powder with a large brush.

    I would have thought shampoo good for cleaning them.
    Its only the foundation one that will need washing often.
