Wedding reception OS in my home

Options
Hi everyone. I really need some advice. My sister-in-law has just got engaged and will be getting married in 4 weeks. She has asked to have the reception at our house which is on the small side. We have offered to do the food for her as a present and she has asked for a traditional buffet, asking for sandwiches, salad, sausage rolls, cheese on sticks etc. I would like to do something a bit 'posher' than that but still sticking to what she has asked. After all, it is her day. I have suggested hot dishes like chilli but she doesn't want that.

So far we have hot baby spuds, quiche, boiled ham, salady stuff, french stick. Does anyone have any suggestions for things I could cook that would be quite quick and easy. There will be around 35 people here. I would like to do something with small pieces of chicken, but not sure of a marinade. I am still new to OS cooking and have previously relied on the freezer departments. I am good at burning things and never sure how long to cook things for, so if anyone had suggestions for me could you make them idiot proof!

Iceland have some large gateaux for £3 so we will prob get few of those so I can concentrate on the savoury stuff. Thanks in anticipation.

  • A Tikka or Tandoori Marinade is always good ! Chicken Pieces done in one of those would be wonderful teamed with some rice (add some veggies in) and maybe have a go at some homemade Naan bread?

  • How would I make the marinade. I have korma paste and curry powder in the cupboard. Sorry, I did say I was useless. Also, how long would I leave the chicken to marinade? Thanks

Quiche cooked in a square tin, use unusual ingredients, i.e. smoked salmon and broccolli....cocktail sausages cooked in the oven then drizzle honey over them and sprinkle with sesame seeds., spear on cocktail sticks.....chicken drum sticks in a spiced marinade, cheese straws.......just a few ideas......buy a packet of puff pasrty, roll it out thinly and divide into thirds, put cheese on 2/3rds and then fold one piece over the other and roll out again, then brush with a little melted butter and roll up from one end so you end up with a swissroll, chill for about half an hour then cut into thinish slices and cook in a hot oven for about 15 minutes, before serving sprinkle with a little grated parmesan.

  • Do a search for tandoori Chicken or chicken tikka, its basically yoghurt, spices and food colouring. You make it and pour on the chicken and then cook!! It tastes divine !!!

At my wedding reception (6 weeks ago) !! We had reception at a hotel, but we chose a hot menu, to give you an idea (and it went down so well- we did do a few rounds of sarnies also).

Lasagne With Garlic Bread and Salad & Roast Potatoes
    Chicken Curry and Rice
    Mushroom Stroganoff
we also had potato smiles and chicken nuggets for the kids !

I think it's nice to have something hot ! And if you homemade the menu it would probably work out cheaper than sandwich fillings, sausage rolls etc etc

  • What about pizza? If you have a breadmaker you can make the dough in that. If you don't want to make one from scratch, you could buy a basic one and add some toppings and more mozzarella.

You can buy dips quite inexpensively if you don't want to make them and get some tortilla chips.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • YUMMY Tootles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I Love Cheese Straws !

  • Congratulations charley24 on your wedding. Thanks tootles, I didn't realise cheese straws were so easy and quick. Will def give them a go. The sausages sound lovely, do I drizzle the honey after they are cooked or before?
