I have googled and wik'd this and could find arguments for each of the 3 dates, though I think that it is probably 1997.
Good luck everybody.
Browse the internet at blistering speeds with the PocketSurfer2, which lets you access the web from anywhere with a mobile phone signal. Datawind are offering Focus readers the chance to win one of five PocketSurfer2 devices, worth £179.99, which includes 20 hours per month of free internet access – plenty of time to check emails, get directions and shop online. There’s a full keyboard as well as a colourful 640x240 pixel display. Datawind use data compression technology to accelerate browsing, so full web pages load in under seven seconds.
To be in with a chance of winning one of these fantastic prizes, just answer this question:
In what year was an EEG-based brain computer interface first used?
A 2007 B 1997 C 1987

Was 1997 so unless they were developing it for 10 years - possible0 -
Doing some brief research it seems that this research has been ongoing since the late 1800's, early computers started in the 60's and 70's. My GUESS is that it's 1987It's not the taking part ... it's the WINNING that countsWon so far ... free junk mail, spam, irrelevant cataloguesAug 2008 - £5, Sept 2008 - £356.89, Oct 2008 - £59.62

see section : non-invasive BCI.
(EEG) is the most studied potential non-invasive interface, mainly due to its fine temporal resolution, ease of use, portability and low set-up cost. But as well as the technology's susceptibility to noise, another substantial barrier to using EEG as a brain-computer interface is the extensive training required before users can work the technology. For example, in experiments beginning in the mid-1990s, Niels Birbaumer of the University of Tübingen in Germany used EEG recordings of slow cortical potential to give paralysed patients limited control over a computer cursor.0 -
