Firstly I'm sorry if this isn't the right section I had trouble finding an appropriate one, but would really appreciate any input.
My friend has had 3000 pound withdrawn from her bank account, which after speaking to the bank it would seem to be Blake, Oliver and Scott who halifax sold the debt to.
The issue is the debt is my friends ex-partners who left 4 years ago and moved to America.
Last year my friend has some financial difficulties and remortgaged her house. The Halifax wanted to pay the money into a Halifax account, the only one she had was an old joint savings account. She explained at the time that it was a joint account and she had split from her partner. She was told that didn't matter and they would use this account.
That was in january, she immediately transferred part of the money into her current account, but left the 3000 there for emergancies. She went into the bank today and discovered 3 days after the money had gone in they had taken it out.
The debt was nothing to do with my friend, and the money nothing to do with her ex. She received no notification this was going to , or had happened.
The bank so far just keep passing her round to speak to different departments.
Is there anything she can do? Any advice would be really appreciated.
Sorry this is a bit long and confusing, thank you to those who managed it through to the end,
Lisa

If you read the terms and conditions of bank accounts in the small print it does say they can take money out if owed. I am assuming the debt was in joint names?0

The debt wasn't in joint names, it was her ex's credit card. Have no idea how they got the bank account details, or how they knew as soon as money was paid in.0

She may stand a chance of getting it back if it definately was in his sole name. I would get her to ring the national debtline or pop into her CAB before making contact with them.
Sadly if the account was joint I doubt she stands a chance.0 -
Yep halifax is blair oliver scott and a trick they use is to try to get partner of the debtors to pay, another trick they triedon us telling me I was a cardholder on DH account. at that point they were reminded all calls are recorded by me and would they like to repeat the fact I was liable funnily enough non of his creditors like me much.Barclaycard 3800
Nothing to do but hibernate till spring

Has she checked with the ex that he didnt authorise it? As a joint account holder he could have given the bank details for them to take the payment...0
