Dying hair - virgin!

Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help. At the tender age of 35 I've just self dyed my hair for the first time. Because I've got really long hair, I bought two packets (they were on special offer anyway - £1.99 each at SemiChem, down from £6 each!), it seems to have gone okay, and other than a bit smelly (same as salon really) still, looks okay (in fact, just looks same as own hair colour, but without the grey bits in!!! Was actually really easy and saved me £55 into the bargain :j ! Have got a bit of cleaning to do though in the bathroom:rotfl:
Anyway, at the same time, I bought the same brand as the all over dye home highlighting kit (this was down from £5 to 99p!!) that apparently you just put in stripes down your head. I've read the leaflet inside out and upside down, and it doesn't say anywhere, that if you've just dyed your hair not to use for x amount of time afterwards. If I can achieve this, that's another £50 saved!!!!
Bearing in mind, I've never, ever, ever dyed my hair before, nor have I ever highlighted it before .... should I go for it :think:

Hi, there! I can't answer your question, but I find that a chestnut rinse every so often does wonders for my mousey hair

Having just coloured my own hair...a fetching shade of blue/black, I would be cautious of highlighting it, just in case it goes an odd shade. Well, in my case I'd probably look like a skunk :rotfl:
I think this is one of the occasions when I would do a strand test first.
If you snip a bit off from underneath, tape the ends together with sellotape and make up a bit of the mix.
If it goes ok, have you got a mate who could help, I think that foils look simple(ish) and it would stop the bleachy stuff from going all over the rest of your hair.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Arghhh, foils - friends .... was just going to squish it on, close my eyes for 30 minutes and see what happened!!
Going to a friends tonight. Might take my kit with me, and ask for her assistance. But seriously, should I take my tin-foil with me too (scared that this is now sounding a bit kinky!!)0 -
Hmmm.. highlights are tricky.. after having made a good job of dyeing it, you'd be gutted if something went awry and you ended up having to pay for it to be fixed (sorry for looking on the negative side here).
I think as whatatwit says, deffo do a strand test first.
