We want you to tell us the true story of your most memorable ‘Close Encounter’ with insects. We’re not looking for an essay, just a short piece of about 200 words, with a title of no more than 5 words, that describes an encounter you’ve had with an insect (or several insects) in an interesting and informative way.
The Entomological Club (founded in 1826) has generously donated £300 for this competition (£150 for 1st Prize, £100 for 2nd Prize and £50 for 3rd Prize), to encourage people to write about their personal experiences of encounters with insects – not just the annoying wasps at late summer picnics or the biting midges and mosquitoes when on holiday, but the countless other occasions when insects come into our lives.
