My wife has sent me here to find out if any one knows what stuff her mother used to but from the chemist to remove rust stains. "worked a treat" she says. I think I am being put to the test. Help save my reputation someone and supply me with the answer.

Got some Stain Devils for rust (from the supermarket)and it worked 'like magic'. Can't remember how much it was for a small bottle but I justified the cost of it because i couldn't wear the trousers with the stains on so it saved me buying a new pair0

to remove rust stains from garments:
apply lemon juice and salt mixture hang ouside to dry.
or cover the whole area with cream of tartar roll the item tightly and soak in a bucket/bowl of hot water. then launder as usual,
or boil two cups of chopped rhubarb in a cup of water until the rhubarb is really tender, remove the rhubarb and pour the hot water over the rust stain, then wash as usual.
from haileys hintss not me, so don't know if they work
