A word about low-energy light bulbs.

At work we often end up changing failed low energy light bulbs just 1 month old!
Some don't even last 10 hours let alone 10,000 :rolleyes:0 -
I've had a look at these before with great interest but maybe they're not quite ready yet. The ones I saw were expensive and too big, and am I not right in thinking that they give a very 'blue' type of light, rather than the 'yellow' light that we are used to? (think fluorescent tubes). I would love to be corrected and find somewhere that does these cheap, but I think I might have to wait a couple of years...0

I think you can get a range of colour temperatures now but AFAIK these are at the more expensive end of the price scale.I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Osram do replace failed bulbs free of charge - simply return it in a Jiffy Bag with your name and address to the Freepost address: Osram, Freepost CSC. You should get a replacement inside 28 days. We have had several replacement low energy bulbs from them that failed in the past 6 years.0

I don't see why an individual can't provide their personal opinion of a product and name it - you're just not allowed to shamelessly advertise products...0

Anyone got a free post address for philips?
I posted my bulbs back to them using a second hand jiffy bag and bubble wrap, and the stamps were from the post office survey (but I don't do that know).
With these bulbs selling for 89p or less, if you had to buy a jiffy bag and pay for stamps it might not be worth sending them back.
Having said that, all the bulbs I installed were installed last October, and the ones that failled did so immediately, or the next day. No bulbs have failled since then.0 -
Low energy bulbs are utter pap
Ive seen more light come off a cigarette.
The only decent ones are about 10 million watts and thats defeated the idea of them anyway0 -
I think we overlook why tungsten filament bulbs use more power, the energy is released as light and heat.In the UK it is fairly cool for 9 months and the heat given off from several tungsten bulbs is useful in warming the house.
I feel that operators of low energy bulbs will burn more energy in their heating systems.0 -
