  • I made an online app on 14th Jan through L & C and the next day they called & Emailed me to say that I must urgently fax or scan my signature to them as Co-op were withdrawing this product from the market and they needed a signature ASAP to hold the deal. It all smelled rather fishy to me so I declined to fax my signature.

By return Email, I thanked them for the prompt response and said that I hadn't been able to get to a fax machine. In the same Email I said I would be interested in speaking to one of their advisers about mortgages but I haven't heard anything from them since.

Does anyone know if Co-op did withdraw a product on 15th Jan or was I about to have my pants taken down and.......well, you know, lose money ?

i plan on doing the same as pint sized princess. surely a lot of people will go on comparison sites, check out the best deals and see if the broker can beat them? its so easy to do.

I did this too, I used the comparison sites, then I went to L & C, they were fantastic, Louis and Michelle customer service was second to none, they even phoned me and told they heard the Abbey were pushing the rate up the next day and I should seriously think about the mortgage they found for me, I agreed that afternoon to go ahead, and sure enough, the next day I heard on Sky news that Abbey had increased their rates.

    I couldn't fault them.

I don't know, but I'm sure it was true. It is one of my biggest frustrations as a broker that deals change so fast, like a couple of weeks ago Halifax had a great tracker (0.11% below base) introduced Monday withdrawn Wednesday with 24 hrs notice.

I always tell clients, but I think, like you, they often think I'm hassling them, when in fact I' just trying to get them the best deals, knowing that waiting another day is going to cost another £1,000 or £2,000 for the next best deal.

I wish the following would be made clear.

If you want a personal service, local broker

If you want a distant service then l&c are a good option.

Personally, I try and do both but you have to work out what level of service you require.

  • I've been dealing with them over the past few weeks and found them to be fantastic. Ring when they say they will - leave you alone if you ask them to. I can't say I've tested the deal they've got me. To be honest ..... I'm staggered they got me an agreement in principle based on 5.5 times salary

Why would you research it your self then use a broker?

You ask that question on MSE???
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

LOL yes I know, but hey nothing surprises me on here so I thought I would ask.

Personally I think now is the time to use a broker, even if the market is squeezing us out. I like to know how a client thinks, I find it interesting how people think and why etc etc.

I try to judge my client and tailor my service to them, either leave alone or hold hands!

Some valid points in the answer, but I do wonder how a complete novice thats needs a hand held would find a phone based broker?

In my opinion, I don't think people who need a complete handheld approach would be comfortable with a phone based broker. There are always going to be people who prefer a face to face approach and I know plenty of people like that.

Personally, I don't mind either way. I think the added appeal of a phone based broker, however, is that you don't build up as great a rapport as you would with face to face contact, so basically I wouldn't feel as bad if they did the legwork and then I decided not to use them!! :o
  • Well its luck of the draw!

We have a broker near us, they are like chicken all lined up at desks clucking away! They have targets and they have to make a living at the same time though so you cant blame him for trying! On the flip side I am sure if you wanted somthing out of him you would be pushy towards him!

Also its takes years to get the hang of the public, and like woman I will never 100% understand them!
