thanks shaz! school hols have started here already (inset days) so I'm hoping for a relaxing morning, trip to Mr T's and then a bit of a baking session.

ISOM - just had your potato bread for breakfast...absolutely yummy! I expected it to be quite stodgy but it's very light. I'm still trying to use up my all the extra packet mash I accidentally made when attempting gnocchi last week.

I agree with what you say about breadmakers...when I first started making bread I used it all the time and depended on it. But recently I only used it to make the dough and baked it in the oven as I prefer the taste and texture that way. But now I realise the dough process isn't as time consuming as I had thought (esp with no knead bread) and it's actually easier to make it by hand. Not sure what to do with the BM now - the pan has lost it's non stick so it's very hard to get a loaf out so not sure if anyone would even want it on freecycle...

    good morning lovely ones :hello:

Had an early night watchin' telly last night, so just cought up on all your news, sounds like everyone is doing super-well. :T

Hypno, to make your cheese go further in the baps, one possible idea is to grate it first, and mix up with chutney (sounds odd but looks fine and tastes lovely) it's easier to spread, you use less sos of the grating, and the chutney 'glues the little gratings in so they don't fall out sideways. We got double the amount of sarnies than thin slices of cheese.

Sorry if you already do this! :D

phizzimum, ditto about the BM! I'm hopefully gonna sell mine to someone from ISOM's work... The no-kneed bread is loads quicker eh?

ZoeGirl what did you tweak in the recipe? Is it sweet enough? Been wracking my brains for what you might be able to do with it to redeem!

Erm, ignore this question iff to nosy, but in the light of your mortgage free by 30 goal, I wondered how old you are?! ie how long have you got to go! :D I'll go and be cheeky somewhere else now!:o

Sammy that's a very kind offer, but I'm a bit inundated with Tom plants, and a very hectic watering schedule! We're coming your way soon hon, on a trip to Gower hunting for marsh sampphire, we'll wave as we go past (me and ISOM and maybe Mr Weezl too!) or maybe if you and Ben fancy a day by the sea we might see you there?...:D;)

cocalls, hiya! It will need tying to a cane if it isn't already, watering daily and feeding once a week. Strips of laddered tights are good cos they're stretchy and don't cut into the stem of the plant... ;) Not that I know much, this is my first year. But I've harvested 6 toms already. :T

JackieO great thrifty recipe! Have you got that book then? Sounds great!;)

    welcome llydaw :hello:

HM chese and onion bread dipped in olive oil with olives and sliced tomato in balsamic vinegar. I reckon it was about 12p per person'

yep, I think we'll be needing that there recipe!:T:T:T

carrie, how's the Yog doing? Any thicker?

Welshwoofs, foraging gets a real mixed reaction, like love it or hate it, I think. As you say that lovely gent on the train gets all twinkly, but then some people look at you like they're thinking 'you eat weeds?!'. :rotfl:I'm glad they think that though, or there'd be none left!!!

Today we both have leave to do some work on the house, so will pop in on and off.

    Love Weezl x

yog didn't thicken very much,it's like thick milk but it tastes yoghurty.I've plonked it in fridge now and will use it up as I tend to eat it with oats and honey or rhubarb for brekky.I will invest in milk powder for next try.I usually have some in but forgot it last shopping trip lol

He loves being outdoors and having mini picnics in the garden ,have a big box of craft stuff for wet days ,new colouring books etc luckily the village park is not too far, i have promised to take him to join the library too ..................is their a thread for occupying kids in hols

Brekkie today is h/m yoghurt and honey with walnuts yummy i feel like i am on holiday.....

Lunch - pate on french stick

    Dinner corned beef hash/bake

Got to tighten belts for a couple of weeks due to overspend on garden projects so just popping back to shopping list and menu plan from 1st challenge

hi shaz - how old is yr youngest? I have to admit this is the first summer that I've been looking forward to the holidays (but it's only the first day so that's subject to change!) But I remember dreading them breaking up and counting the days wondering how I could fill them - it's not a nice feeling, cos you feel guilty too, but we've all been there.

My girls are dressed, breakfasted, asking for more food already! DD9 has manically tidied her room (including putting her books in alphabetical order! is this really my child? is she possessed by the spirit of anthea turner?) but I'm stubbornly sitting here in my pyjamas refusing to get ready cos it's school holidays!!! (who's the big kid in this family?) I'm trying to teach them the art of "down time"!

let's hope we have good weather, it makes it so much easier to wear them out eh?

    Weezl,

I was chatting with a gourmandising friend on Saturday night and apropros of nothing she gave me some new and useful food information about pigs heads...

Did you know that cured pigs cheeks are considered to be a superior type of bacon?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guanciale

Or that you can make it at home without too much trouble? http://recipes.wikia.com/wiki/Guanciale

Or that you can use it exactly as you would use bacon or pancetta?

Peas with guanciale and onions (you can also use broad beans in stead of peas)

Hello, had a busy weekend baking cakes (for the freezer), made banana and raisin flapjack to use up the over ripe banana OH tried to bin ;) But we have eaten all that already :o

Got annoyed at OH so while he was trying to watch golf on telly, got out the food processor and made olive tapenade (but my food processor doesn't get it very smooth so it just looks like finely chopped olives ) - its in the freezer.

Also made butterbean hummous/paste type thing with some added roasted red pepper for colour :D That's in my sarnie for lunch today with a bit of ham. And more of it is in the freezer.

Sick of washing up the food processor bits - I'm now after a stick blender - anyone recommend one that's good for soups, tapenade and hummous??? :D

Plan to try the no knead bread - have wholemeal bread flour and plain white value flour - which would be best - or can I mix them together

Is the recipe for the lemon buns on the first post? I can't see it... I know it was an adapted one...if anyone can tell me who it was that adapted it I can search for that post.

edited to say - plum pie, it was your recipe I was after and I've just found it...why oh why can I only find things about 60 seconds after I've just asked someone where it is?

newly wed - I've been making the bread with equal parts wholemeal strong flour and ordinary self raising and I have no complaints! (love that bread, love it, love it...getting obsessive - risking restraining order.)

My stick blender is a Braun one - it has different attachments so it can do lots of things without taking up a lot of cupboard space. its very easy to clean as well. not sure what the model is called - it's a 500watt one if that helps?

    yum yum yum :j :j :j

just made pate with my lambs liver(no idea of cost - been in freezer for LONG time!), plus butter (50p), onion(5p), and lots of garlic(7p)!

i could have eaten the whole thing warm once i'd blitzed it! and got a nice big tub of it! :D

i used my food processor, i do have a stick blender that i use for pasta suace etc, but i find the food processor gets stuff much smoother (or maybe i don't have the patience to stand there with the stick blender!)
