Refills/ Bulk Buying with return postage paid.

I was just reading the 'Hippy Shopper' blog and they had a post called 'Supersize your eco washing powder and get it for half price' where they wrote: "it'll save you a stack of cash and cut down on packaging. The sums add up nicely. This bag costs a mere £27.50; the equivalent amount in weedy supermarket-sized 1.2kg boxes would set you back roughly £50. You can order yours from Ecotopia, which is also running a currently unique refill service. If you buy any bulk size (500ml+) plastic bottles of Ecover, Bio D or Clear Spring, it'll reimburse £2.50's worth of postage so you can post the empties back for reuse. Sounds to me like a win, win, win situation for you, landfill sites and Ecotopia."

Sounds like a good idea if you have the storage space? :)

    Thanks for the links.

Ectopia's had lots of recycled products for sale like recycled circuit boards for mousemats and coasters, which my DS1 & 2 will love for xmas stocking fillers. So it's added to my favorites.
  • Yes, they [ecotopia] have some nice stuff, although I haven't used them (yet) I also intend to do so for Xmas prezzies. At the moment I bulk buy shower gel, laundry liquid, dishwasher liquid and washing up liquid from Faith in Nature as they have free delivery when you spend over £35 - which is just as well considering how much the stuff weighs! :)http://www.faithproducts.com/shop_frameset.asp

Competitionscafe how well do you find the products you buy from Faith in nature work? I have been using Ecover products and hadn't realised there were others on the market. The fact you can bulk buy cheaper eco products really appeals to me so would be keen to hear your opinion.

    Cheers

For free delivery over £30 & bulk packs of washing powder try:-
    http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/969957.html

I worked the equivilant cost of buying this at what I pay per 1.2kg box as £32.42 - so at £26.30 a saving of just over £6 or 19%

    Hi Nikki,

I tried ecover, bio d and faith in nature and finally settled on the latter as my favourite - for the laundry liquid the smell of the ecover liquid is nicer than ClearSpring (which is the Faith in Nature brand) but apart from that they both wash equally well and I find the Clearspring one more gentle (for sensitive skin) so I stuck with that. If the smell of your clean washing is important to you you will probably prefer Ecover as clothes washed with Clearspring don't really smell of anything - I think this is because it fragrance free?

Washing up liquid and dishwasher liquid I also prefer Clearspring - they just seem to work a bit better, not really any other reason. I also prefer using an eco liquid in the dishwasher rather than those tablet things, because it's cheaper and there are less harsh chemicals. I use the Clear spring rinse aid too. Don't know if ecover do shower gels and handwash, but Faith in Nature was one of the few SLS free brands that didn't cost a fortune - I like Green People ones too but they are a bit £££!

    Hope that helps! :)

Just another point in favour of Clear Spring laundry liquid: it is also great to wash floors!

What great timing - my wholefood co-op order is due in soon so I can get the products talked about at wholesale price - fab! Thanks guys.

I would offer to get some for others but I live in a daft remote place and it wouldn't be worth the postage. No free postage over £35 from me, sorry!

Just out of interest what is the price difference/ saving as a % off the retail price. Wholefood co-op sounds like a good idea, how would I go about finding one & would there be one in a big city like Edinburgh? If not I could start one I suppose although I am not sure how to go about it...

P.S. miacat the Faith in Nature shampoos are good too (Rosemary, Aloe Vera, Tea Tree etc).

This shampoo soap is very good too:
