Smelly jars!!

Hi all , just wondered if anyone had any ideas of how to get smells out of glass jars.
I recently made some plumb jam and just had some on my toast...yum!!
However the jam has a slight taste of mint (not altogether unpleasant but I would rather it didn't):doh:from the mint sauce that used to live in the jar.
Any ideas on how to get rid of these persistent pongs??

Quite often the smell is caused by the lids. Try soaking the jars in hot water with some mild bleach or sterilizing powders. Discard lids from pickle type products.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

Stand them in a solution of bicarbonate of soda.0

I always use sterilising tablets,or milton or any other baby bottle sterilising solution.0

If it is the lids and for jam, just throw the lid away and use waxed circles cut from waxed paper(cereal packet liners) and sellophane circles cut from plastic bags.If you want to keep the lids, use cling film on the jar and then put the lid on over the top.0

I find that a little vinegar and water deodorises anything.
Years ago I went on holiday and emptied the fridge then left it switched off, with the intent of leaving it open. When I returned I realised I had unwittingly closed it and well, the inside of it was green with stinking mould. A washing up liquid clean up followed by a strong vinegar solution took care of the problem.
And vinegar also acts as a reasonable disinfectant, too. :TBe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
