as far as stationary goes (this coming from a student) most of mine comes from asdas or tescos value range. does exactly what it says on the tin.
with young school children, they often dont need half of what they nag you to buy, as schools are very specific about them only writing with certain types of pen (to do with handwriting i believe).
i remember thinking i was the bees kness :j when i reached year 6 and not only was i allowed to use a fountain pen, but i could choose whether i used blue or black ink :rotfl:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I noticed that M&S had some really nice little school skirts for £5 the other day, sadly I have already bought my daughter her trousers and skirt for next year (Tesco). Had 2 really sweet little pinafores for reception but this year she announced she wanted trousers and a skirt. I have 2 secondhand pinafores which I might make her wear sometimes. She cannot decide what shoes she wants in Clarks, so I am going to busk it and wait to see if we find anything in Spain next week. Otherwise she will get what fits her in Clarks! Shirts and pinafores last year came from Tesco as did socks and were absolutely fine. tights I have had more of a battle with. I bought 4 pairs of black and later 2 pairs of green and all got shredded, or went at the crotch. I think it is to do with the way they pull them up (e.g. not properly). The thing is I don't want her getting cold legs and can't bear the thought of long white socks and bare thighs under a skirt. Anyone recommend good tights, I bought mine from BHS, Tesco and Asda and they were all not much good. I've also bought the M&S green cotton cardi (not the branded school sweathsirt material one which washes quite badly and costs £4 more) which she is happy with.
There seems to be a lot of peer pressure as to what is acceptable and what isn't. I didn't think it would start this early!0 -
For older schoolchildren you could try https://www.oldschoolyard.co.uk They specialise in school uniform items in adult sizes.0

TK Max are doing lovely leather girls shoes for £7.99 ( they were £33.)They are Kangaroos, so a good make and should last untill outgrown.Loads of them there.
Mothercare have school uniform 3 for 2 and some of the bits are reduced also with 20% extra off.
I usually get the packed lunch boxes and stationary from Asda as always so cheap and Tescos tend to reduce all the school stationary a week after term starts if you can wait.0 -
I saw that GMTV were comparing the supermarkets for back to school clothing etc so here's the link.

Hope it's good for a while as the site gets changed a lot, should be ok until the schools go back for England/Wales etc.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -

Bought my sons uniform from Mothercare today, just happened to be passing and they go up to age 9-10. Had 2 polo shirts for £5, trousers were £5 and all on 3 for 2, so 4 shirts and 1 trousers for £10 or 2 shirts, 2 trousers. Other uniforms and socks(!) were in 3 for 2 also, and the quality (I thought) was much better than Asda/Matalan etc.0
