Know anything about Acers?

Options
I love Acers, but they are sooooo expensive so I bought a little one from Sainsbury's (my sister has grown them successfully from there) put it in a pot and it has seemed quite happy, until now. The tips of its little leaves are curling up and going brown and it has some sort of mould all over the leaves - looks sort of white and cloudy. Is there anything I can do to save it do you think? Sister has no idea so I'm stuck.
The only thing I have done to it until now is water - maybe I have over-watered it?
Any advice would be most helpful. Thanks.

Snap...only I shopped in Morrisons, lol.

Mine did this too (minus the mould though). All the leaves curled, went brown and fell off eventually. We now have a twig. :(

I thought maybe it had been watered during a hot part of the day and had got burnt but since I'm no expert that was a guess.

I've just pulled it out it's pot to dispose of this morning. (I assume it is actually a goner even although the main stem is still green? )

Ohhhhhh, this is happening to mine too (brown leaves....no mould...but there is a bit of green left)....except mine is in the ground. I haven't ditched it and probably won't....unless it doesn't grow any leaves next year that is.

I know some varieties aren't keen on direct sunlight - if that's any help.
  • Stop worrying! they are all OK...I have 8 acers but that doesn't make me an expert, just lucky!

The leaves are going to fall off in a few weeks anyway and will be back next year, they go brown because of exceptionally hot or windy weather and if the leaves get wet in sunshine.

I confess to not knowing what the mould is but I know that they don't like to get waterlogged so it may be that.
