Clear nail varnish on black trousers

Please don't laugh but....
Had a voucher to get a free nail varish from Boots, rushed in there at lunchtime, and grabbed a clear nail varnish-as my nails are not good enough for any colour.
Made my way to the till, holding my bag, a brolly, a plastic bag, and nail varnish. Out of the blue the varnish bottle dropped on the floor, smashing, varnish splattering my black trousers..up both legs, and the floor!
Whilst I was standing there for the few first seconds looking at the floor in horror, an assistant came up and asked what I was playing at. I stuttered that it was an accident, then realised I still had the lid/brush in my hand. It musn't have been screwed on properly, so only the actusl bottle dropped off.
I was too embarised to say any more, but did manage to scuttle back to the shelf, get another bottle, check the lid, and go to a till in another direction, whilst a team of assistants had cordened off the offending area!
Anyway, now I can't get the clear stuff off the black trousers, and I thought if I tried remover, it would bring the colour out.
Hope I've brightened your day, with this little story, and if anyone can help it would be gratefully appreciated!

put nail varnish remover on both sides of the trousers, and put in the wash.

Thought I'd revive this thread, cos I too had a small accident with nail varnish and need to remove it from black trousers...
Essentially, I was short of time before going swimming after work, so thought I'd paint my toes at work during lunch (yup - crazy I concur). I turned my trousers back, but inevitably they fell back and the bottom hems of both legs are now decorated in Deep Purple (rock on!!) nail varnish...:rolleyes:
I've tried remover on the non-visable parts, but it hasn't worked too well.:o
They have now been washed several times, and it hasn't shifted.
Any ideas? Stardrops? Vinegar?
