Cheap Booze Bonanza

A number of retailers are offering cheap booze in the run up to Christmas. Better still two are supermarkets, which is good news as they tend to be cheaper anyway.
As booze doesn't date easily, it's perfect for stocking up for the Christmas festivities:
There are certain things it's always difficult to decide whether to include in the MoneySaving e-mail or not. Last week I wrote a blog about 22p cans of lager and whether they are MoneySaving or not. And many of the same issues apply here.
However the counter is this is for wines and all booze; rather than just "get sloshed quick and often" lager. With the festive season approaching many people will be stocking up; and therefore this allows some serious MoneySaving; which is why I decided to put it in the weekly e-mail.
Yet I don't want to negate the impacts alchohol can have. There are many self-help threads for alcholics on the forum (discussing the issues of MoneySaving whilst giving up) and irresponsible drinking can cause terrible problems. Please do take a look at www.drinkaware.co.uk
* Using these links helps the site stay ad-free and free to use, as they’re ‘affiliated links’ which invisibly take you via commercial price comparison services like Moneysupermarket or Find, which then pay this site per click.
You shouldn’t notice any difference, the links don’t impact the product at all and the editorial line (the things I write) is NEVER impacted by the revenue. If it isn’t possible to get an affiliate link for the best product, it is still recommended and still included. The following tesco.com is an identical unaffiliated link provided for the sake of transparency. Click on the following link for more details on how this site's financed.
As booze doesn't date easily, it's perfect for stocking up for the Christmas festivities:
- 1/3 off 6 bottles of wine at Morrisons. In-store only
From Monday 19 November Morrisons is offering 33% off selected wines and champagnes in store when you buy 6 bottles or more.
Ends: 2 December
Online or in-store: in-store
- 33% off selected New World Wines at Marks and Spencers.
Marks and Spencers is offering 33% off online. Plus if you spend over £30 delivery is free.
- 25 % off all wine & champagne at Tesco. In-store & Online
Tesco* is offering 25% off all wine and champagne online and instore. Even better is that this discount applies on top of any current discounts. So if something is already marked half price, you'll get an exta 25% off the total at the till.
Ends: 25 November
Online or in-store: Both
- 40% off wine at Threshers. Voucher
The popular Threshers offer is back! While it seems like a big discount, it's worth bearing in mind 40% off doesn't automatically make it the cheapest.
Threshers tends to be more expensive than the supermarkets so make sure you compare with the above offers before you splurge! To get the voucher just enter your details and wait for the e-mail.
Ends: 30 November
Online or in-store: In-store
Print the voucher: Threshers 40% off

Tesco's 25% off for half dozens seems to apply in addition to other special offers and is 25% off the original, not the special offer, price making it worth more. Eg own brand Cava, normally £3.76 a bottle, is currently on sale at £6 for two but if you buy six you get a further £5.64 off, giving a decent bottle of fizz for £2.06, a 45% discount on the single bottle price. (The Cava offer should have ended on 18 Nov but was still running yesterday in Hove.)0

Is there a free website that does the same thing as fixture ferrets?0

Strange how Martin starts a debate about the ethics of 2% 22p per can lager, yet puts stronger stuff at No 2 in the weekly email.0

Bought 6 bottles at Tesco yesterday. All half price offers, then got a further 25% off at the checkout. :beer:0

I can confirm that Tesco does double up the discount. Got 6 bottles of Sherry (a bad habit I know) Harvey's Bristol Cream, already discounted to £6 a bottle, with 25% off the total, made it £4.50 a bottle.
Bargain for Christmas. Might have to go back and get some more.
Pity I don't like their wine selection0 -
Besides making several helpful observations that are then shared with subscribers, I think the main message of this site is that consumers take responsibility for their own expenditure and savings. I don't think that Martin makes judgements about which products people choose to spend their money on, so much as helps them make the most efficient use of their income.
Please don't stop offering tips like this Martin. I like a drink. :beer:0 -
Are they any vodka offers? I don't like wine (tastes funny & gives me a cracking hangover!) Admittedly, I don't go down the booze isle in the supermarkets so I wouldn't have a clue what offers are on anyway! (I often think there is something wrong with me, as my glass recycling bin is full of coffee jars whilst everyone else's is full on wine/beer bottles ha ha)C Card £5218.68 (Feb 2011)£2 coins (No 085) - £190Mort overpayments 2011 - £418.060
