There's a little African supermarket just opened up down the road from me - it doesn't seem to have loads of stock yet but has a fair amount of sacks/packets of grains/cereal/pulses along with assorted other stuff.
What should I be looking out for that might be moneysaving?

oh wow! I'll bet they have mealie-maize. Starch stodge makes very thick porridge with the consistency of mashed potato - but strangely addictive especially good with gravy! one bowl will probably stop you getting hungrey for an entire day - and it doesnt get more moneysaving than that!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000

mealie meal is similar to polenta and you can make bread with it too, although not like normal bread but it is very nice!!! It is the staple food of many Africans and you can use it to also make cakes.
They might have biltong, an acquired taste, but if you like it you can chew on good biltong for a while! It's dried and seasoned meat0
