Corelle ??!!

All the plates in my house are from Argos. The cheap ones in bright yellow. But they are heavy and my husband has managed to chip the sides of a few. I had some real nice stradforshire pottery ones from a charity shop....
But now I have decided to upgrade. I went to an American friends house who had a Corelle dinner set. Pretty, light, cheap microwave and dishwasher safe. She says her whole family swears by it. Had lovely casseroles of the same material.
But I cant seem to find them in the UK.. Have I been looking in the wrong place. Or is it such a good thing that the americans have been keeping it a secret.??
Is there anyone out there who uses them? Or do you have a better alternative??

I have seen them in France I'm sure...but I can't find them on a website anywhere a the moment.
We restocked recently with Debenhams own brand porcelain range when they were half price. I don't lose sleep if one gets damaged as they were so reasonably priced - I think the mugs were about £1.50 or so...
However one of my best friends swears by Denby, and has been using hers for about the last 10 years with no problems. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Ebay have a few things but they are in dollars so high shipping I would have thought, or tey a google search. Maybe even your local kitchen shop might be able to help, they might not stock it but be able to order it in.0

Never heard of Corelle - sorry.
My Aunt swears by Denby she's had her set for years. I've only had mine for 2.
I got mine from the factory shop in Denby (derbyshire) but there are factory shops all over the UK:

It's the same quality but there might be a tiny mark on the bottom in the wrong colour etc.
They often have a sale after Xmas and about June (It's been a bogof sale for the last couple of years too). I get all of my stuff then.
They sometimes do a sale where you bring in an old plate or bowl or cup etc. (any make or quality) and you get 50% off a new whatever you brought in. - save money and recycle! When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
my friends in the states have loads of that stuff and its great! you can get it really inexpensively from walmart so it might be worth checking out asda as they are now part of the walmart institutionBlah0

If this is the same thing i'm thinking of, it used to be part of the pyrex family but it's very pretty and delicate looking, not like pyrex at all.
I think some of my American cousins have some but i seem to remember that if broken, it shatters into shards - deadly!
It might not be the same stuff but it might be worth enquiring, especially if you have children or pets.0
