Ok - here's what happened
Mistake number 1 - bought 3 year old a air of white shorts - I know - what was I thinking but they did look cute on.
Mistake number 2 - sent him to nursery in them - he played outside - they got mucky - not filthy just dusty on the pockets, bum, knees etc.
soaked them for a bit and then washed them on normal wash - but they still looked grubby.
mistake number3? put them back in machine with washing powder and a bit of bicarb (not entirely sure why I did this - maybe because it's seeped into my unconscious mind) plus the usual vinegar instead of conditioner(did this cause some chemical reaction?)
where the grubby marks were - there are now pale, peachy, orange marks!!!!
anybody know why this has happened - apart from my obvious stupidity and more importantly anybody know any way to get these marks out? or are they doomed and I'm going to have to dye them.
They really did look cute....................

Which type of vinegar did you use? (Please tell me it wasn't malt
)
Was the "dust" just dirt or could it have been chalk dust, paint dust??
Ok, don't dispair just yet. Try soaking them in a mild bleach solution overnight, rinse well and see what happens.
Report back in the morning. Good luck!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

No it was white vinegar - I've been using that with no problems for ages. It was just the grubby marks where he's sat/knelt etc in very dry soil. There are a couple of patches at the end of the grass where the grass has been worn away by footprints - and he's sat in it. I'll try bleaching them. When I bought them - my sister looked at me and said WHITE? and I said - they'll wash - aggggggggh0

Well they are now a pristine white again - HURRAH. Thanks Queenie - I would have given up - didn't think the bleach would work as it was such a strange colour and no reason for it in the first place. Thanks again- obviously he will only wear them for five minutes at atime and then not be able to sit down.0

A little moment of when mine were younger, took them shopping and they wanted the new England footy kits. Nope I said and walked past them. GRANDMA said yes, look at their faces, Shall I treat them? I said you can wash them every time then and so I sent them to her house to be washed and never agin did she buy white.
Son is now into cricket...........................he better know how to wash I say!!Panda xx

You'd think Grandma's would know better wouldn't you, after all they raised usOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
Bless her. She did actually think I was saying no as I couldn't afford them for the both of them. So I suppose eldest son is going to ask how to keep his 'whites' white, so I can pass this info on to him. Hold does he keep his 'whites' white?Panda xx

Ah, but, isn't it equally true that being a Grandma you get to spoil the g/kids in ways that you couldn't/shouldn't/wouldn't have spoiled your own kids? That includes buying them clothing that they won't have the worry of washing
