cleaning a carpet

Hi,
Yesterday i cleaned our kitchen carpet with warm water and vinegar and it worked a treat!
However, last night one of the dogs got hold of my daughters black mascara and chewed it up all over said carpet!!
Any ideas of how to go about cleaning it off?? Im scared in case vinegar makes it worse but dont know what else to try....im allergic to carpet cleaners!
Any help much appreciated!
