Alfalfa

Options
I have a packet of Alfalfa seeds here that I must have bought in a moment of madness

I don't suppose anyone could tell me how to grow them please? :o

I'd assume they might be grown similar to cress on damp cotton wool or something but I don't know for sure, and other than salads, what can they also be used for?

I bought them from this company, where I also buy most of my spices and occasionally treat myself to some sweeties :D

BTW, if anyone's looking for a decent pestle & mortar they have an excellent one on special offer at £9.99 and although it's not mentioned in the listings, it's actually the one Jamie Oliver uses, and is a substantial size and very heavy!

Alfalfa sprouts excellent in sandwiches, tasty and with good mineral content. Also other beans are really easy to do - suggested types and variety of ways of sprouting here, nutritious, economical and fun.

    Hope this helps

You need to sprout the alfalfa seeds before trying to use them. You can do this by using a special sprouting jar (expensive and not really necessary) or any wide-necked jar or container. Basically, you need to soak them overnight, rinse them and leave them moist. They will sprout in a few days. You need to rinse them twice a day and don't let them dry out, but don't let them get waterlogged either. You can cover the neck of the jar with mesh to assist in the rinsing process. It takes between 3 & 5 days to get decent sprouts.

    Hope this helps.
