Aquamassage in Debenhams - trial session!

Options
Well as you know if you hang out here a lot I've been a little bit stressed lately, to the extent that my shoulder was giving me spasms of pain. And I'd looked at the Aquamassage machine in Debenhams a few times and been tempted, and finally at the end of last week I decided to ask for a session. So the lady handed me the form to fill in, and one of the first questions was "do you suffer from high blood pressure?" - there were various others but of course that one leapt out at me.

The very nice lady said she couldn't give me a session there and then because of my BP, but if I came back with a letter from the GP saying he didn't think there'd be a problem then I could have a free session! She also said all the aquamassage staff there knew that if people came with a GP's letter they could have a trial session, so it wasn't just her being nice! You'd need to check the form to see if 'your' condition is mentioned - I don't think 'stressed' or 'needing a tonic' were medical conditions there ... ;)

GP has now written the letter, so I'll be off for my session soon!

Back from my session, and very nice it was too. Really only marred by the smell of plastic while lying on the couch.

And until Sunday they are doing 50% extra if you book multiple sessions, for which there is a discount. So you get 4 10 minute sessions for £35, but then you get two extras.

Obviously you need to check whether this is suitable for you and your medical history, but if you need to relax, it's good ...

I'm actually a trained holistic thereapist which is basically reflexology aromatherapy to name just a couple. the reason you cant have your treatment without the letter from your doctor is basically for a disclaimer. It means that its your risk and your gps and if anything did happen you can't sue them. But as well as that if your GP says you are well enough for the treatement then thats ok but some treatments can actually affect the way medication works. The other health issues on the list would probably of been embelism, varicose veins, diabetic, epilepsy thrombosis possibly also osteoprosis, sorry about the spelling. When iwas at college i had a lady with high blood pressure for a 4 week case study with a letter from her GP who was very suprised when she went back to him 4 weeks later and her blood pressure had halved and was a normal rate. I have a letter that she wrote me stating this. All we did was massage with essential oil sweet marjoram in a very dilute mix. If you can afford it see if you can find a fully trained aromatherapist in your area who may help with yours.

Yes I could completely understand them not giving me a session without something from the GP: the other thing I remember it asking about was any operations in last 6 months.

Thanks for the therapy tip: I think for now I'm stuck on the medication: daren't muck about with it because I really want to get my surgery date sorted soon! But afterwards I shall come off it and use all other means possible to get my BP down.

I don't think aquamassage has anything to do with a massage therapy - that's why they offer free sessions
I'm quite certain it's nowhere near as good as a proper massage with a trained masseur. But for cheap, safe, accessible relaxation, I found it pretty good!
