Aduki beans

Can I grow aduki beans in this country? The ones I buy all seem to come from Asia.

Where do you buy these beans from and what do you do with them? I have heard of them but never tried them.

Not sure if you can grow them in this country. My "Bean Book" says they are mainly grown throughout the Far East. Apparantly you can sprout them yourself though to get your own crop of bean sprouts.

Aduki beans are used a lot in Chinese and Japanese cooking. You could also use them like other dried beans and just stick them in a stew/casserole. Most supermarkets sell them, either tinned or in dried form in packets, or otherwise its the specialist stores or chinese or asian supermarkets/stores.

I use aduki beans in stew. I buy them from the local health shop (1.23 for 500g). I looked around for cheaper sources but mail order is always dearer because of the postage, so I wondered if I could grow them. Apparently not.

Basicly they replace the meat in the stew. You soak them over night and they should be the first ingredient in as they need 40 minutes to cook properly. 50g is a portion for one in a stew. (or try 25g Aduki and 25g lentils).
Every one who tries them either loves or hates them. If you want to cut down on red meat give them a go.
    Regards
