I am Truly a Convert

I have converted to the MoneySavingExpert way of life!

I have had my backside kicked into touch on the debt board, now believe that vinegar/lemon/bicarb's are the best cleaners since getting someone else to do it and I am now off into town to buy myself a great big slow cooker!

In the meantime I've laughed my socks off and I've only been here a few weeks!

Infact, i'm looking forward to the day when my information could be useful!

Joking aside - I need help. My daft eldest yesterday put a plastic lid on a very hot hob. The fact that it stank and smoked, she claims she never noticed whilst washing up........
How on earth can I get rid of the plastic thats left behind???

I think this is one where you will have to attack it with a reasonably blunt knife.

You could try to soften it with a paste made up of biological washing powder and a little hot water- spread paste on it and leave overnight.

Many yeras ago I had a plastic lid wrap itself around the heating element of the dishwasher. I had to leave it there and peel bits off every time it was hot. The plastic smell lasted for WEEKS! I thinks that'sall you can do really - just prise bits off as suggested before with a blunt knife when it's warm enough to be flexible.

make this a reasonably blunt knife that you don't mind not using for food ever again and you can warm the plastic up as you scrape. The plastic will stink again, the knife will go black and you'll never get it off again, and you'll probably be breathing in carcinogens like they were going out fashion, so open the window first! Get the extractor fan going too if you have one. Wipe the knife clean regularly on a thick wadge of kitchen towel. Good luck!

My Mum did this once on a gas cooker, she could never get all the plastic off & the burners were affected. In the end she put in an insurance claim for a new hob.
