Last night I managed to tear a MASSIVE hole in the inner thigh on a pair of jeans (no, they weren't too tight, they had frayed and I tried jumping and then there was a loud 'rrrripppp' !!) I was thinking I would be adventurous and try and make something else out of them, perhaps a skirt? Couple of problems with this plan though;-
1. Am I right in thinking it would take less material to make a skirt than it would to make trousers? If not, this plan won't work! as I was thinking I could 'undo' the seams, then cut out the bit with the hole?
2. I don't have a sewing machine (nor do I know how to use one!)
3. I don't know if you can sew denim 'by hand'
4. I don't know if I would have to use a special needle and thread?
I would feel particularly proud of myself if I could do something like this. Any tips would be very very welcome!

how to make a skirt out of jeans!
you will need a thick needle, and a thimble to push the needle through.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Sew the back pocket from your jeans on the beanbag and you'll have somewhere to put the remote-control
You could also make a cushion or two - my children sewed some for a school project but you wouldn't even need to do that as you could use iron-on tape that fuses the hem when ironed and use press studs (which you bang into the fabric with a special tool) or ribbons to fasten0 -
actually thats a good idea... i was looking for ideas for things to start with, and i love cushions.

You can make cushion covers out of old jumpers or bath towels.
In a magazine once I saw some 'cafe'style kitchen curtains made out of tea towels (new ones, but u can get these in poundland!)
You can make a bag out of a pair of jeans or a jumper too, the jumper would need lining.
If you are taking the pockets off the jeans use to make a purse.
After a poor result with irn on hemming tape I would recommend sewing cushions because you don't realise how much of a bashing they get sometimes;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

im looking to create enough cushions so that with my bean bag, i can create a 'comfy zone' in my room for vegging out, reading, watching tv etc. thats the current plan anyway.
like the idea of making a purse too, tho when i got round to doing the skirt i was planning on leaving them on...useful things, pockets!
any ideas on any other projects i could start off with? i want to start off small, learn the techniques as i go along, so i have some sort of an idea what im doing my the time i come to get working on my real projects.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
pavlovs_dog - do you have a sewing machine, or are you planning on sewing by hand?
For some basic sewing instructions (zips, sewing glossary), look at this LINK (great ideas for curtains, tiebacks, cushions, lampshade etc. )
