Rick Steins programme - organic meat

Did anyone see Rick Steins programme tonight, the part about organic beef. They got butchers from Smithfields market to taste 3 different joints, 1 from an organic farm, 1 from supermarkets finest range and 1 from a High Street butchers. The majority chose the organic beef as the best.
Ive never bought organic meat as yet, Ive been put off thinking I would be paying over the odds and there wouldnt be much difference in taste. Do you all buy organic meat, is it worth it? (putting the environmental reasons aside)

It is definitely better and doesnt cost any more theorectically as it is the processed meat being produced cheaply as opposed to the organic meat being dearer, if you get my drift. The best work is the cheapest as the quality remains long after the price is forgotten0

I buy organic chickens, and yes there is a huge difference in the taste. Expensive - yes, but I just try and serve smaller portions.
Beef, I find can vary enormously. What i have got from supermarkets I have not been impressed with but if I get it from the farm when visiting mother it has always been better quality and tastier.
Funnily enough I now buy organic semi skimmed milk and can actually drink it as it really does have a flavour compared to normal semi skimmed0 -
I know that these people have featured as one of Rick Stein's food heroes, in one of his programmes

The mixed cut "Beef Box" is better value than selecting individual cuts.
I've tried them and, yes, you can tell the difference. Perhaps they would do a one-off box of "thrifty" cuts at a discount?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Yes I saw it and it made me really hungry! I like Mr Stein, he's about the only decent TV chef and a refreshing change from Jamie 'stupid pukka' Oliver.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

Good idea DFC, thanks.
For info the farm featured on last nights programme is www.browncoworganics.co.uk“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Didn't see the programme, but do buy organic meat as often as I can, and for chicken I wouldn't touch anything else! (Have you SEEN how they raise the non-organic ones? uurrgh - and I'm not a animals libber, but the thought of eating chicken that has been stressed/ill-kept its whole life - no thanks!) I also buy organic semi-skimmed milk because my children drink loads of milk and I'm hoping to keep unknown hormones/antibiotics etc to a minimum. Having said all that, am only human and buy lots of non-organic stuff too (yes, yes, junk as well!)[0

I never saw the programme either but I buy organic meat and vegetables on a regular basis. Organic Chicken is a million times better than the stuff I have tried from super markets. I regularly shop at Graig Farm with their organic chicken being a firm favourite of mine
I think the thrifty box is a good idea, It's only me and my partner so I don't have a whole family to feed but I can imagine that the larger boxes could reduce expenditure. The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today0
