How do I clean gold plated taps?

Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to clean gold plated taps? Mine are quite tarnished and any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do not use vinegar as it is too strong. Try bicarb of soda on a damp cloth. :)

Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA

I'm afraid, it's probably too late if they're tarnished. Originally, they would have had a lacquer coating to protect them. If they're tarnished, it means that the lacquer has worn off and the gold-plate will be exposed to all sorts of potential damage.

You may well get them clean, but you'll be forever cleaning them now. Mine in the kitchen are now worn down to the brass base. So what were gold-plated are now just brass ... with some stubborn bits of plate stuck on here and there.

You could try Astonish paste (from Poundland) as it's non-corrosive and non-abrasive, but don't expect any miracles.

sorry to be so glum - but "I've been there" and "I've got the brass taps" to prove it ;)
