Using a special code you can get £20 off £200+ flights from flightbroker Opodo from 3 to 10 Feb 2010. As Opodo includes most flights, that means it works with the newly extended American Airlines, BA and Virgin flight sales, eg, New York £290, Boston £300 and Bermuda £410.

See the AA, BA & Virgin Sales forum note for more.

[/title]
I found a Virgin London-New York March return for £298 on Opodo. Take off the £20, and the total cost was £278 inc. most taxes and charges.

[title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif How to book
[/title]
  • Step 1. First find the cheapest standard price

If you fancy a certain destination on specific dates, don't go direct to Opodo. All results. inc. flight sales, are included in the cheap flight screenscrapers Kayak*, Travelsupermarket* and Skyscanner*. See the Cheap Flights guide for a full lowdown.

If you want to go to a destination served by budget airlines, you could well be better off with the FlightChecker, our tool that tools you when to go to get the ultra-cheap flights.
  • Step 2. Check the price on Opodo

Once you've found the flight you want, go to Opodo* and search for the same flights. Yet always pop the flight in your basket, as then it'll include the 'booking fee' it sometimes adds (it clearly says if there is one).

Provided the total isn't £20 more than the cheapest elsewhere, use the code to save. Pay by credit card, and, like many similar places, there's a 2% fee, so if you need pay that way, check whether you can avoid it elsewhere.

Do also always check the terms and conditions when booking flights, cheaper deals tend to lack flexibility and individual brokers can have their own terms.
  • Step 3. Use the code to book

Enter the code opodo20 in the promo codes box to take off £20 flights over £200. Opodo automatically ticks a box to say you want insurance, so untick this when you book.
Booking for more than one person?

The discount is valid against each booking, not per person. So if you want to save on flights for two people, you need to book each flight separately - and that's allowed even if you live together (it's one discount per person, not per household).

Yet, this is a gamble. Cheap flights’ limited nature means there’s a chance that between booking flights one and two, the cost could jump. Ideally, get your pal to book & press ‘submit’ at the exact same moment on another laptop.

Before booking, you can gauge roughly how many seats are left at that price by pretending to book flights for up to nine passengers. If the cheap fare’s still available for all the seats, you know you’ve got a fair chance. If it’s not even available for two or three seats, be worried.

Pay by credit card

Remember, for safety, pay on a credit card to get extra protection. See the Section 75 guide for full info and of course remember the British Airways strike issue isn't resolved yet - so there could be another ballot there.

Get £20 off £250+ Hotels

There’s also a code to get £20 off a £250+ hotel spend. Just enter the code opodohotel before 10 Feb. Yet remember, hotel prices fluctuate much more than flights, so there are far more bargains about, it’s worth reading the Cheap Hotels guide to see all ways to save on rooms.

[title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif Anything to watch out for?[/title]

The offer ends 10 February 2010, but can be used on flights for any date. The voucher is not valid on multi-stop flights, Flight + Hotel bookings and flights with low-cost airline flights (easyjet, Monarch, Flybe, Jet2, Thomsonfly and Aer Lingus). See full terms and conditions.

Also read Opodo's full terms and conditions when you book, as they could differ from the airline's. If you need to change your flight, Opodo charges a £25 admin fee. Yet many airline sale fares are non-refundable anyway.

Be careful with this one. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

There may be significant terms and condtions differences between buying the flight that you want from the airline directly and from Opodo.

Opodo may impose additional terms and conditions that may be more restrictive than booking direct with an airline's website and to save up to a maximum of ten per cent, it may simply not be worth it for your circumstances.

As always a good read and comparison can help you decide.

Opodo terms and conditions http://www.opodo.co.uk/opodo/StrutsServlet/DisplaySiteInfoPage?pageName=termcond say

    "Flights

Please note that in relation to air fares there are additional terms specific to that fare. For example, tickets are normally non-changeable and non-refundable. You can view the fare rules when you view the Terms and Conditions during the booking process. In addition, the majority of airlines reserve the right to make schedule changes and cancel confirmed bookings. While Opodo, as Agent, is not responsible for such schedule changes or cancellations, we will provide you with any reasonable assistance you require via our customer services."

    Also

"3. CANCELLATIONS OR MODIFICATIONS BY YOU TO YOUR BOOKING

The following applies to all products or services booked via our Site:
Your ability to cancel or modify a booked travel product or service, and the method for doing so, will depend on the specific Travel Supplier's or hotel's terms and conditions. It therefore may not be possible to cancel or modify some products or services, or there may be specific requirements you will have to meet. Please note that for itineraries built up of different routings and more than one fare base, there maybe more than one set of fare rules. In this instance, the most restrictive fare rules will apply. You should read all fare rules pertaining to your reservation.
For flight bookings, hotels, car rental and insurance, you may be able to cancel or modify your booking by telephoning the Opodo call centre on 0871 277 0090 from the UK (10 pence per minute from BT landlines (different charges apply to other telephone providers - please contact your operator for details)) or +44 121 281 3360 from overseas.

In the event that you make any alteration to your booking (including, but not limited to, cancellations, refunds, amendments and name changes), Opodo reserves the right to charge you an administration fee of £25 GBP per person to cover the administration costs incurred by Opodo. These charges do not include any charges imposed directly by the Travel Supplier or hotel, including any difference in fare/room rate/rental rate."

I was lucky, I didn't book until today :) However, Opodo charge a £4.50 booking fee plus a credit card fee so the saving is more like £10.

I booked to fly with BA, the terms & conditions seem to be the same as Opodo
That's life, it's just the way it is :)

Thanks, just booked some flights on BA for next week. For some reason Opodo were already £30 cheaper than BA (even taking the service charge into account) and then I got the further £20 off, so £50 saving all up.

    Worked a treat

flights from Edinburgh to Houston with AirFrance/KLM for 2 adults
    dep - 14/6/10
    ret - 7/7/10

    Opodo = £660.20, minus £20.00 discount code = £640.20
    Plus using topcashback.co.uk gave 1.7% (£10.88) back :j

    = £ 629.32

Using AirFrance or KLM site these are just over £700
    Thank you MSE :T
Now off to find a rental car offer ;)
