Vacuum Cleaner Recommendations Please

Hello everyone,

I'd like to replace my vacuum cleaner. I have no clue when it comes to this kind of thing! My current one is a Rowenta but I find it heavy and awkward and I need to go over the cat hair encrusted carpets (I know, I know, yuk indeed) multiple times to have much effect. I need one that:
1. Is efficient at getting rid of cat hair on carpets
2. Is light and easy to maneouvre
3. Is quiet

My budget is upto 200 GBP.

I have also snuck a look at the Roomba models, does anyone have any experience with them? I know it's busting my budget, but I'd be willing to consider one for the convenience aspect if they do what's advertised.

Advice and suggestions welcome!

Thanks
Edit of course I didn't search 'Roomba' and have now found that thread.

There has been a few posts asking the same thing Claire, and if you're willing to pay the price then you can't do better than the Miele Cat & Dog, it's the cat's whiskers at picking up pet hair, and the quality, being a Miele, is second to none IMO!

I've had mine for years now, and it's still picking up the same as it did when it was new and we have 6 dogs in the family, and no-one would know coming into our house that there had ever been an animal in the place !!
  • Hi Jessilu, thanks for your reply. I was sure there were plenty of threads around but search just brings up millions of Flylady threads...

I'll have a look at the Miele - we've had good experiences with them for other white goods so that's reassuring!
  • I thought I'd just close this thread with the news that we went for a Roomba in the end. It's not as powerful as a standard vac but the time saving is the main plus point for us. It does do a pretty good job of picking up cat hair and stray litter and we vac every couple of weeks to make up the difference.

It's not quiet but it's not as noisy as our vac so our cats don't mind it.

Our flat is half parquet half carpet and it seems to work as well on one as the other. We do have to pick up some lighter things off the floor before setting it off (cat food bowls for instance).
