Self Assesment return

Hi all,

A couple of years ago I was very briefly self employed. Thus employment ended after about 4 months and I earnt under £3000. I rang the tax office about this and they said they would make a note about it and that would be that. I was pretty young at the time so just thought that would be it. Ive moved house a few times since then and just got a tax bill through which is really big so i rang and they have sent me a tax return.

I really don't understand the form at all. As I earnt such a small amount do I need to fill out a sepereate form or something to say this.

any help would be massivly appreciated as I'm really rubbish at this kind of thing.

thanks

wes

If you have been self employed, then you have to self assess. It sounds as if HMRC have got fed up with waiting for your self assessment, so they have estimated your liability, or made a determination as its called. The only way to overturn the determination is to do the self assessment - no way out as the law applies to everyone.
