    Hi there mummyboo

I got it 9 days ago and I'm 32 weeks pregnant. It's a very personal choice and a big decision for anyone to take on.

For me I weighed up the options available. Do I risk getting swine flu and potentially dying (worst case scenario) and not being with my children or do I take the vaccine and risk a reaction but remaining alive to see my kids grow up.

I know it's a very drastic way to look at things but it's how I done it. Also I considered the MMR I got for my daughter, there is a link with it and Autism and I still got it for her.

Ironically my daughter has been diagnosed with swine flu on Wednesday this week!

Weigh up the pro's and con's for you and your family and make your decision on that alone

No there isn't - that was completely made up and one of the biggest medical scandles of recent years.

It will probably harm more people than Shipman!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Also Cathy, I would be careful around your other daughter. You wont have developed full immunity yet so could still potentially catch swine flu from her albeit probably a milder bout. I think they advise two weeks before immunity post-vaccination.

Remember the southern hemisphere had their flu season while we were enjoying summer. They acted as guinea pigs for us. If there were problems with the flu vaccines it would have shown up in their populations. Don't worry about it.

not necessarily. We're talking about the vaccine in pregnancy, it is likely that many of those babies have not yet been born and any defects caused by the vaccine not yet picked up as a result. Or, there may be delayed onset problems or those which cannot be identified until the child is older.

This is why I don't plan on taking the vaccine as I'm only 10+4. If I were later on in my pregnancy i.e. after viability, I may have thought again about it. As it stands though, I think there are enough things that can go wrong in pregnancy, especially early on, without adding other unknown factors.

That's just my view of course.

I know im not getting my wording right here (perhaps toothsmith can help!). But it seems that there are two types of swine flu jabs, one has an activant(?) and one doesnt. The one that doesnt have it is safer for pregnant women, and i think it is the one that they use for all pregnant women in Canada, but in the U.K you cannot be sure if thats the one they give you. I hope this makes sense!

I still cant believe Dr Andrew Wakefield hasn't been struck off for that. It makes my blood boil thinking innocent children have been seriously ill, and even died, from measles, as they weren't vaccinated because of the completely false allegations he generated. Rant over, otherwise i will go for ages :o

Sadly there are still people not giving the MMR to their children or indeed the single vaccinations. I had Measles as a small child and i was so ill my sister nad brother had ot go and live with my grandparents for several months.

Southern hemisphere haven't tested the vaccine anyway, its only been available in the last couple of months.

Unfortunately though even the ones who are giving their child the single vaccines may not be covering them as well as they think. The vaccines are made abroad as they are not licensed in the UK, therefore there is a chance that they actually vaccinate against a different strain of the viruses than we see in the UK
