Changes To Working Pattern and Los of Earnings - Advice Please

I currently work in a department wehre we work a four on four off 12 hour shift system. Currently the company is investigating us working a different shift pattern over a rolling five week period. I understand the need for this - better utilisation of the work force being one need. However there are a few things that I believe we need to have looked into and I would really like some advice.
1. Currently there is a team investigating the proposed shift patterns. This team consists of management with no worker participation. Every couple of weeks we are sent a sample rota and asked what we think of it. AS such we have no "real time" involvement in the investigation. Does anyone know whether we whould be allowed representation? If so, is there a statutory requirement for worker representation?
2. Although we do 12 hour shifts our actual shifts are around 11 hours. When the current shift patter was brought in, 8 or 9 years ago we were asked to work the extra hour as overtime in order to make the four on four off system work. This was at managements request. If we go over to a new shift pattern we would lost this hours overtime daily and over the course of a year this is a fairly large amount. Does anyone know where we stand regarding this - we have worked this hour every day at managements request for years and now to lose it at the drop of a hat seems unfair to say the least?

Better not to have representation. Whoever is rep will carry the can if none of you like it. The best thing to do is to find out from Management what they are trying to achieve and make your own proposals which move in that direction without being skin off your nose1. Go by hours in the year. I suspect your current shift pattern actually contravenes the Working Time Directive, so there may be little prospect of continuing to work overtime.2. A 4 on 4 off shift pattern means that you will work no more than 4 shifts in a week, ever, and some weeks 3. You can mark it out on a calender to see.
