I'm trying to trace whoever is now responsible for the old British Gas Corporation Staff Pension Scheme. I'm talking about pre-privatisation here.
I worked for SEGAS until 1985 and when I left I was given a letter saying that as the scheme was contracted out a GMP would be preseved within the scheme. I forgot to update them when I moved a couple of years later & now I can't find out who to contact.
BG still exist in the guise of BG exploration and Centrica
however the bulk of the UK business became Transco who in turn became National Grid
Their pension service is based at Basingstoke try 01256 308956
You could also try HMRC (although they are very slow!!). If you give them your name, date of birth, national insurance number and the dates you worked, you can ask them to confirm who is responsible for the GMP benefit.

Thanks for all the replies. I tried National Grid who seem to have responsibility for some of the British Gas Pensions but they replied that the GMP part was bought out by the government in June 2001. I will try your suggestion next doorstep.
