The statue in the Mauchline room is HERE (scan round the room). If you click on the statue it gives THESE details. This is undoubtedly a "small" copy of the original statue of Burns now in the centre of Ayr. Even more details HERE

The racecourse is definitely North East of the square but I can't see anything else that fits either

Well done finding the poem - I tried every other location except Inversnaid
btw not sure if you'll know, but burn is the Scottish word for stream - the poem makes a bit more sense if you know that :)

I suppose it's possible they messed it up and put North West when they meant North East

[STRIKE]Maybe they were still thinking of Alloway when they said North West? [/STRIKE] Sorry no the racecourse is pretty much due north of Alloway. Strange one, suppose we'll just have to wait for the answer.

Highland Mary's statue is in Dunoon and there's nothing interesting NW of her

Just found apology on forum for mistake in clue; http://www.cashhunt.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=25

QUOTE; from Junious from 29th September 4.17pm

"The was a slight error in one line of the clue this fortnight.

The line "NORTH WEST, YOU'RE ON COURSE" should have read "NORTH EAST, YOU'RE ON COURSE"

Apologies for this, although it doesn't seem to have stopped an awful lot of you getting the right answer.

You will be happy to know that the person responsible has been sacked."

We were right, well done folks.
