I hope something changes with regards to this where more lenders will allow a soft footprint rather than a full on intrusion hindering your chance of credit in the future

The "standing committee on reciprocity" - what do they do exactly? I hope this works because just seeing if you qualify for a better deal shouldn't affect your score, especially if it's just an enquiry (you should be able to do the same with mortgages - the search shouldn't be recorded as a definite application, only a quotation search).
Something else that affects your credit file, but not your credit score, is if you sign up to Experian's CreditExpert (I did on the 30 day trial, and cancelled before it was due for renewal), it will perform a daily check, which is fine.
However, the daily report email always said "activity on your file", and when I logged in to check, the only think I saw was the automated file check scanning through, which is completely retarded as the way the message is worded you think someone's been in your credit file for some reason.
