Update Note From Martin: Balloons now on sale for Mothers Day :)

With very kind permission from Martin who has very generously allowed us to tell you that www.balloonsbypost.com is once again sending out very Romantic packages from £7.50 with many free enclosures this year. Depending on how many balloons you wish to send we will be adding romantic confettios, heart shaped chocolates, rose petals and buds, a silk rose in a heart decorated sleeve with heart ribbon and your message handwritten on a card with a red heart. We send balloons for every occasion and it's all in aid of The Teddy Charity which buys medical equipment for sick children being nursed at home. Thank you to all those who bought from us last year and thank you Martin for opening the door to us once again and making a difference.

Great idea. Why are you not sporting a charity number or Gift-aid clawback?

Just a quick reply, the woman who runs BbP is temporarily away from the net so they've asked me to post this for them.

"Oops, of course this particular balloon price is gaga and will be changed tomorrow. Gremlin?"

"As far as the charity number is concerned and gift clawback, it's the law that charities can ONLY trade in goods made by the people the charity helps (thus Oxfam can sell, say, Peruvian blankets made by the Peruvians it helps, but not plastic buckets) and this rule is to prevent people abusing the charity system for fraudulent purposes.

The separate fundraising operation - even while in our case donating one hundred per cent to the charity - is thus not a charity per se and therefore has no right to use the Teddy Charity registered number, which is 1061346. Similarly CAF and giftaid tax clawbacks only apply when a cheque is made out directly to the charity, not the separate fundraising operation. It would, of course, be a lot more simple to run it all under one roof but that would be illegal!"

Thanks for letting us know. Re the "charities can ONLY trade in goods made by the people the charity helps" how on earth do these English partnerships attractions and most of the independent museums run their [strike]tourist junk traps[/strike] gift shops with gift-aid postcode/house number boxes on receipts.
