Suspended from work...need help

Evening all,

I am a long time viewer but a newbie to the whole posting side of things and I am after some advise please on behalf of my husband..

Its a long story but please have a read if you have the time.

My husband is a chef in a staff canteen on Night Shift, he went into work on Thursday to be called into a meeting and suspended on the spot, the story goes as follows...

He was in charge of the canteen, cashing up etc on Wednesday night, the Thursday morning shift comes in and there is money missing from the safe.

He opened the safe and checked banking to ensure that everything matched up with records at 8pm on the Wednesday this was logged and signed accordingly and key put back in a sealed bag which again was logged etc.

He opened the safe again ay 9.15pm to get some change for the float and although it is procedure to log it etc as above it is standard practice not too when opening the safe during service, the key is placed back in the bag but not sealed and placed in the filing cabinet.

The safe was opened again at 2.30am when all cashing up etc had been done, he didn't check everything to ensure that safe contained what it should have (stupid I know and trust me he has had a mouthfull over this) he and another member of staff signed the paperwork stating that everything was in the safe, key was then sealed etc again and given back to security.

Upon opening the safe on the day shift a bag containg approx £800 was missing...

When he reported to work on Thursday he was called into a meeting and 3 hours later was suspended with pay. He was called into work on Friday to once again go over everything that happened that night.

In the meeting on Friday he was allowed a union rep to accompany him, but did not have anyone with him on the meeting on the Thursday.

He has not heard anything since due to it being bank holiday etc and He is sitting round the house feeling sorry for himself and is worried sick that he is going to lose his job (I know that this is more than likely for not following procedure etc) however when money went missing at another unit before he was employed the person in charge was suspened and given a final warning so I am hoping that the precedent (sp) has been set and may act in his favour.

Whilst I appreciate this situation does not look good for him, I have advised him to get his CV out to some companies so if the worst does happen he is prepared. What I want to know is what he can expect to happen next..

Any advise is greatly appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read...

His employer will be conducting an investigation and will no doubt be speaking to the other person involved too - as such a large amount of money has gone missing then it is also likely that the employer will involve the police.

What does his union rep say? He needs to speak to his union rep to find out what is going on and what is expected to happen. Sorry if this is upsetting but the union rep should have more information and would be contacting HR about it, the union rep is probably doing their own investigation too asking whether or not the correct procedures were in place and whether the procedures could be tightened to prevent such an occurrence happening again.

Your OH needs to look at his disciplinary procedure - he will have been given a copy as that will explain further what is likely to happen in the future.

It isnt unusual to suspend someone on full pay whilst an investigation is carried out especially where money is involved.
