Which Breadmaker?? (MR white or SS?)

Options
Hello,

I know there are loads of threads already on which breadmaker, but after reading them I'd narrowed it down to a Morphy Ritchards Fastbake. However there are two! One is white and the other stainless steel, they are different shapes, but I don't know if there is any other difference between them!

Does anyone have any info on either of these two models? (48280 & 48268)

There is £5 difference in price on Amazon (£35 & £40), although if anyone has seen them cheaper elsewhere, I'd be grateful for the information..

Thanks
Janet

I have the MR fastbake in white, and it is excellent!!!! Paid £35 in Argos about a month ago (reduced from £45) and havnt had any problems at all, made all sorts of bread, and regularly make pizza bases and dough for bread rolls.

    Thanks for the replies :)

I've done a bit more digging, it seems the stainless steel one has a fold down paddle, which means no hole in the bread, and makes it easier to remove from the tin (allegedly).

I've emailed Morphy Richards to check the dimentions, as an Amazon reviewer mentioned the SS on was huge - but then breadmakers aren't exactly small....

I bought the homestyle one from Argos on Monday, but it's going back in favour of one of the MR's.

    Cheers

We had a MR fastbake in silver. It worked fine, apart from when the bucket/paddle disintegrated and I had to buy a new one (bucket that is, not the whole thing!)! We also found that the bread was very dry and was only suitable for toast quite quickly.

Anyhow, we've given up on the breadmaker now, and make our own by hand. It is quicker to make four loaves by hand, than it is to make one in the BM, and not as much bother as you may think! They are smaller than the breadmaker, but tastier, and freeze brilliantly.

We get our live yeast free from Adsa or Tesco - just ask at the bakery.

If anyone would like the recipe we use, let me know. :)

I'm at work at the moment but I'll post the recipe once I get home this evening. It came from my OHs parents who have made their own bread for ages. The method is pretty much the same as the recipe in Jamie Olivers 2nd Book (the name of which escapes me).

    I'll post it later.
