Our mortgage is with the Bank of Ireland - presumably nothing bad would happen to it if the BofI went under? Would it just get transferred to another mortgage company?

I put my money in the post office to get 7.05% in July, by September they hadn't opened my account so I asked for my money back. They sent me the money back with 7.05% interest for the couple of months that they had the money. I am pleased I took that decision even though I am only getting 4.00% now. I wanted to be safe rather than sorry and not worry at night. Good luck to you all I hope you get your 7.05% interest.

Anglo Irish won'y allow me to withdraw my bonds at all. I would have been willing to accept penalties, but these aren't on offer.

Default Taking a view, as they say ....

Perhaps Martin Lewis (or should we call him Lewis, or The Avenger) is banned from giving financial advice. Perhaps someone aiming at revenge shouldn't be listened to in any case. It's certainly difficult to get a clear message from this and similar lumps of prose. It would be much more helpful if he published a list of his holding and transactions, updated regularly, so that we could observe him taking a view in the City sense.
To be continued ...

Being banned from financial advice, means you have had an FSA ban preventing you giving information due to misdeameanor, and is an offensive allegation.

I am a jouranlist and not a financial advisor, so im not quite sure how i could be banned from it. Yet as an accusation, it's highly libellous and completely untrue and unfounded.

Such a defamation against anyone else would normally be instantly deleted from the forum, but so Im not accused of censorship it will be left there.

However any repeat of such offensive and outrageous remarks and I will have no cause to block your posting priviledges, and will of course strongly defend myself from a similar defamation elsewhere.

Martin

PLEASE NO FURTHER DISCUSSION ON THIS. LETS GET BACK TO T.HE POSITION OF IRISH BANKS.

Default Protection

I thought the protection was up to 100,000 euros in the bank of ireland by the ombudsman and that was before the irish govenrment even get involved. Is the ombudsman protection protected under EU law? if not we need some clarity on this?
