Council tax bill somehow LESS than last year!!!

I know this ought to be on the good news thread, and I will post there too, but I am so astounded by this that I had to post a thread.

My council tax bill is LESS per month than it was last year.

But the total HAS gone UP.

Now, it is right, and I'm definitely not knocking it!!

It's because I had a lodger join me in October, I think, so I lost the discount from that date, and had to pay £149 a month. I worked it all out, checking their figures, as it was more than I'd expected, but it WAS right somehow.

So today I get my bill - ironically the postman even said: "You won't want to open that one, it's the council tax bill."

So I open all my nice post first (jumper off eBay, voucher for free bottle of wine, confirmation of my free photo session and photo) then open the council tax bill.

And it says that this year I have to pay £133 a month!!!! :j :j :j

That's £13 a month LESS than I have been paying!!! :T

I actually cried, I was so happy!!! :rotfl:

How's THAT for good news?!?!??!? God is SO looking out for me right now.

Do you pay yours by direct debit? Mine comes out of the bank every month but it is spread over 10 months. Maybe yours is spread over 12 months now where it was previously 10 months or something?

No, it's ten months, but that's why when it went up for my lodger moving in, it went up by more than I expected, because i have just realised hearing you say that, that of course they had to calculate it over 12 not 10 months.

I am REALLY pleased, because that's gone down by £16, my water is now on a meter and has gone down by £8, I've done meter readings for my power so I think the next bill due in a few weeks will be teeny (I hope) so overall I am better off!!

Especially as this year I know how to budget, thanks to this site.

Lucky you, skintchick! Maybe save that for a treat, or save a couple of months-worth for something nice and put the rest toward another debt elsewhere?

I got my council tax bill today and it's gone up by £12 a month :(

Granted, I've not yet applied for the single person rebate (mainly because I have no idea when OH will be moving out, and I can't see it happening before Easter) but even so, that's a heck of a hike. Even taking the rebate into consideration (as I have for my spreadsheet) that still means I'll be paying an extra £9 a month than I'd planned for. *sigh*
I was cut out to be rich, but got sewn up wrong.

Thats great news chick,we haven't had ours yet but whispers are its going up by around £50..hope thats not a month!!
  • Ours came yesterday too. It's gone up by £3 a month to a whopping £127 per month. I was expecting a lot worse, to be honest, after all the scare mongering in the press recently and can live with just a tiny jump per month. It's not like we don't get anything for it.

Still ... we'll be investigating potential council tax for the next house - I've been caught out by that before!

I wish I could save the saving, but as I am now self employed/unemployed I can't afford to!!! Still, it takes the pressure off a little bit.
